quote: Jul 14, 2009 10:32 ET A Totally New Experience With the Ultimate High Speed Internet of Cogeco
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - July 14, 2009) - Cogeco Cable Inc. (TSX:CCA) today announced the launch of a new high-speed Internet package (HSI) in Ontario, the HSI Ultimate package.
Beginning today, customers in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton, Ontario, may subscribe to this brand new package that enables them to achieve a download speed of 50 Mpbs, 1.5 Mbps upstream and a monthly capacity of 150 GB download. Compared to the Pro package, the Ultimate HSI package offers a downloading speed which is three times faster and a monthly download capacity exceeding 50%. The Ultimate package comes with the full range of security services of Cogeco as well as the rent of the modem without additional charges. This new package will progressively be available in all areas served by Cogeco Cable in Quebec and Ontario in the coming years. These five (5) high speed Internet packages, Lite, Lite Plus, Standard, Pro and Ultimate allow Cogeco to respond better to the needs of all its customers.
DOCSIS 3.0 is a technology of data compression that will allow a more efficient and economical bandwidth. Thus, Cogeco Cable will better meet the increasing bandwidth at a competitive cost; give access to a higher data rate, a better video configuration and an increased level of safety.
"This new internet package shows our constant concern to improve our network to satisfy our customers. They can benefit from a more efficient service. With technological advancement, we can offer better access to downstream and upstream Internet, which allows customers to take advantage of applications, available on Internet, more easily," said Ron Perrotta, Vice President Marketing, Cogeco Cable.
The HSP Ultimate package will be available at the cost of 149, 95 $ per month for subscribers to Internet only and to the price of 144, 95 $ per month for subscribers to the Television or Telephony service of Cogeco.

|
 | reply to gschneider i know they are just following suit. but $149.95/month is pretty expensive |
|
 | reply to HoboJ Especially at that price. |

| I would've expected with channel bonding of docsis 3, they would've been able to give something more than that paltry 1.5mbps upload.
Besides, $150 for 150GB cap? You're paying for speed and new technology which, quite frankly, is downright insulting considering the following:
If you're going to pay $150 a month, what's another $50 to get the Enterprise business service for unlimited bandwidth?? |

 | 50 Mbps with a 150GB cap is funny... |

Who is going to pay $1/GB, in essence, for a service with a paltry 1.5Mbps upload?
Any service at this price should frankly not be capped at all, considering the enormous markup they are getting on this incredibly premium-priced tier.
I am suspecting the cookie crumb-like upload speed might be because they have oversold their network and are worried about uploading slowing down the network. -- Phillip M. Dampier Editor, Stop the Cap! »stopthecap.com |

1 edit | reply to gschneider This is absolutely ridiculous. I like how you get 60gig at 10Mbps, but at 5x the speed you only get 2.5x the cap!
Totally useless for me, I've even stated before that 10Mbps is more than I need. I'd rather take a speed cut in order to get a reduced cost or an increased cap.
I'd thought about the 3Mbps tier but I'd routinely go over that cap. |

This tier needs to be no more than $90, with double the cap and some decent upload speed. I'd be surprised if the full 50Mbits can even be utilized. -- I love fish sticks. I love putting fish sticks in my mouth. |

mousky join:2004-02-12 Windsor, ON | reply to gschneider A measly $5 discount if you subscribe to another Cogeco service. That works out to a 3.3% discount. Wow.
With the Standard package you get a $8 or 15% discount.
Come on Cogeco, you should be offering that Ultimate package for $127 to existing Television or Telephony customers. Even that price is outrageous for a service that still has a cap. |

That's not the case, we want faster internet with an appropriate cap and price-point. -- I love fish sticks. I love putting fish sticks in my mouth. |

 | reply to gschneider my old method of thinking when it came to available internet connections in the Niagara Region was you could pick any two... Fast Cheap Large/No Cap
but this new tier doesnt even fit that mold |
