I still have my modem that I had from years back from the "High Speed" era.
It is the SpeedStream 5200.
Should I walk into a Bell Store and get a different modem? |

They should have offered you a 2wire modem when ordering. The 5200 will not support anything above 8 (or 10?) mbps. |

| reply to Aftcomet Bell stores do not exchange modems...if you signed up for a higher tier service which requires a different modem, they should be sending it to you...you can either return the old modem back via mail or i would suggest to the store for a proper receipt (i think they still take them back). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

I hate Bell.
But the nice lady said not to worry about it!
Oh well.
I got a sweet deal though.
Internet Max 12 + Usage Plan for $44 a month. Not that bad. |

| reply to Aftcomet The 5200 isn't an ADSL2+ compatible modem, therefore a new modem will be automatically shipped to you (most likely the 2Wire or 4200). -- Disclaimer: If I express an opinion, it is my own opinion, not that of Bell or its related companies. |

| Oh because I when I had talked to them while making the change they said no it is not needed.
I hate how stupid they are and I don't know why I doubted myself but I had to make sure.
Guess I'm going to call them again.... be on hold for 60 mins. |

As I understand it since Bell World stores don't have to accept returned customer equipment it's up to the store whether to accept it or not, CS won't even tell you whether you can drop it off in store anymore. They are not all the same. Franchise are another matter and I don't think any of them will. |

Bell World stores do have to accept customer equipment (phone rentals and modem rentals, of course, unless this has recently changed, which i haven't heard that it has)...the purpose of corporate stores is to have a consistent, seamless message regardless of where you go.

they are supposed to...they are supposed to follow the exact same "policies" the corporate stores do...again, it is supposed to be about customer perception, etc...that said, there are plenty of franchise stores that do whatever they want...it has been a problem for many years, and i am surprised they still have franchised stores...in most cases, those stores do what's best for themselves, not the customer. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to Aftcomet Lets not get into a dealer vs corporate debate here.
Because both have pros and cons.
Call ahead to a store to see if they accept returns on modems. Saves you gas and a headache.
I work for a dealer and we accept everything back except TV receivers. -- My employer is in no way responsible for my views/suggestions/posts made in this forum. |
