| We want LINUX support!!!
It's been over a year sine Dan said due to the similarities between OSX, and Linux it should be easy to port.
I'm sure this has been said here before, but let me say it again.
WE WANT LINUX SUPPORT!!!!! -- With every new wave of optimism, or pessimism, we are ready to abandon history, and time tested principles, but we cling tenaciously and unquestioningly to our prejudices. (Benjamin Graham) |

| I'd be happy if he'd make some minor tweaks to the Windows version so it runs under Wine. Some people have already gotten very close with no help at all. He's promised Linux support in the 3rd quarter of this year, but given the history of broken promises regarding new features, Wine compatibility would be more realistic. |

Dale E. Humphrey Jr. Says:
April 17th, 2009 at 2:10 pm as a former employee, Im going to give you the inside scoop. magicjack will never be developed for linux, we, or should i say now they are waiting for the linux community to write the software side of magicjack. the MJ inside motto is why pay developers when desperate people will do are job for us and we can sit back and collect the money

| I actually have mo problem with this. The community has already offered. The problem is there's missing information. The community is slowly filling in the blanks with revers engineering, and hacks. If the they would simply answer a few questions about their SIP UI things would come together quickly. If they released their OSX source code, we would have Linux compatibility in about 24 hours.
I don't buy this statement by Dale. There are some smoke and mirrors going on here, or just an ex-employee trying to inflame people. It's much more likely that MJ believes that they need to protect the integrity of their system, by keeping the SIP info secret, and blocking ATA connections. Due to the open nature of Linux, this will be hard to do. For the reasons I mentioned, I think they don't want a Linux client right now. They'll have to address it sooner or later. -- With every new wave of optimism, or pessimism, we are ready to abandon history, and time tested principles, but we cling tenaciously and unquestioningly to our prejudices. | said by Rexter :It's much more likely that MJ believes that they need to protect the integrity of their system, by keeping the SIP info secret, and blocking ATA connections. MJ isn't suited to BYOD. Your license to use the system is tied to the physical USB dongle. The only way MJ can allow ATA (or other softphone) is if they have a monthly subscription paid directly to MJ.
For example, today you can buy MJ at Radio Shack, return it, and MJ has no awareness of the fact that your service should be terminated. If they allowed ATA devices (and other softphones), you could set that up using the information you received from MJ (SIP credentials, host addresses, etc.) then return MJ to Radio Shack for a refund, and use MJ for free for a year.
I agree that the remarks from the purported ex-employee don't sound right. Why would Dan wait for the Linux "community" to develop something when MJ doesn't (and won't) provide the information necessary to develop it?

| reply to Rexter I don't mind MJs expectation that someone will write their software for them. They should be prepared for the eventual result, though.
It's a lot like what happened in the heyday of the Amiga community. When the major software developers abandoned them, they stepped up to the plate themselves.
The only worry for Dan & company is what happens if someone wants to get MJ running on their Linux-based ATA. If the Linux community develops it, it will be free and open-source. |
