[speed/latency] 7.1mbps / Fastpath

I posted in the direct support forum but so far no response (not sure how long a response should take, honestly).

I just recently switched to dry-loop and a new DSL modem (long story, don't want to go into it). I now have an Actiontec / Verizon GT701C DSL modem.

On the previous setup in this household we were on 3mbps with Fastpath. I am not sure if I am on Fastpath currently since this modem works a little differently.

Also, for this redo account I originally signed up for the 1mbps service, but found it too slow. I spoke with a customer service lady yesterday and she said I could upgrade to the 7.1mbps service and I'd be good to go today. As you can see from the up/down speed, I'm not setup for the 7.1mbps. Any idea why that might be? I'm guessing it's the line but just want to verify.

Thanks for your help!

Matt

Here are the stats from the modem status page:

The line has plenty of margin left, so why you didn't get set up at 7.1Mbps, I wouldn't know. You should be able to take 7.1Mbps on that line since ADSL2+ is helping your line, FastPath, that's a thing to see about once the speeds are turned up.

Is there any way to figure out if it is currently on Fastpath or not? Since this modem doesn't have that handy-dandy Interleave/FAST parameter to look at...

Thanks!

Easiest way would be do a tracert to www.google.com and see what the ping time (in ms) is to your first hop after your modem. The number you're looking for is generally 7-12 ms if you're on fast path.

Ok so it turns out that even though the Verizon website and the Verizon billing department say that 7.1mbps is available in my area, Verizon network/technical people say that it is not. Which kind of makes sense, we are out in the middle of nowhere after all.

Now, about Fastpath. I will have to do a ping test when I get home and see what it looks like.

Probably coming out of a remote in that case. If you were coming out of the central office you'd have more of a chance of getting it. That's probably all they can offer if you're coming out of a remote, and after all, remotes aren't too hard to oversubscribe, even if they are fiber fed.
