Re: [iO] Cablevision/TWC vs. FioS Commercial HD-PVR Recording (M2TS) |

For the HD stuff that comes through my STB (SA 4250HD), I use the Hauppauge HD-PVR via the STB's YPbPr connections. »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···k=hd-pvr There's no native MC support in Windows 7 yet (you must use 3rd party software), but I'm hopeful Hauppauge will deliver HD-PVR Media Center drivers at some point.

 | reply to majortom1029 Well good luck with CVC investing that kind of money to do all that. Maybe if they stop paying Issiah Thomas 's salary to do nothing and if Mr/ Dolan stops paying all of his family members to fill positions already filled by other people. Then they may have the money to invest in FTTH. But until then it will remain FTTN. If in the even they do upgrade their network and have better deals I may re-consider CVC but until then um sticking with FIOS. |
|
 | You may sit here and say cablevision wouldnt do that Nobody expected the to create a 100/15 package and give all customers free area wide wifi ( which i use all the time with my iphone 3gs). So can sit here and bash cablevision all you want but they have been upgrading there network and will do it again to what makes the best sense at the time. |
|
2 edits | First of all I'm not bashing cablevision, I Was a customer for over 10 years. But there service has been degreading over the years as more customers have been added to there over shared network. And yes they have a 100/15 internet tier which is all good but with a $300 activation fee I can pass on that. The 35/20 connection I get with fios is good enough for me and it's 35/20 all day long not just after 2am or when everyone is at work during the day. CVC may infact upgrade their network to fiber to the home but it will cost them billions of dollars and CVC is not known for investing billions of dollars. And guess what verizon is also in works of making free wi-fi available soon. Like I always say if your happy with CVC then by all means stick with them. But if you want to use a service that for the time being is far better then cablevision switch to FIOS. |

2 edits | reply to howie1 I thought CV would give me MUCH more channels when I switched to the optimum triple play upgrade, but all they give me was basic family cable. No HBO or none of that good stuff. It's still better than what I had before which was basic cable with only 21 channels. Now if I want to get all channels in other rooms I have to rent extra boxes for $6.75 more! I don't know what FIOS gives you but I heard you can get 50 channels without a box...
I don't want to give Cablevision a bad rep but I think their service is kind of ridiculous. I pay $44.95 for 15/2 when half the time I'm only getting 8mbps..
And for the phone service, so far it's been ok but I still liked Verizon better. Why can't optimum include a battery backup FREE just in case of a power outage? FIOS does! Instead they want you to buy one for $50.00.
I remember once when I first in my life got CV there was a glitch that gave me all channels, like HBO, showtime, cinnMax, Stars, everything and I was only paying $25/month for basic cable..It lasted for 3 months, then dropped everything down to 21 channels.
As you can see CV has system errors. |

 | reply to howie1 Cablevision actually launched a sneeky campaign last year telling people to vote "NO" on allowing Verizon to install fiber optics in the area (of course not divulging that Cablevision is the one who paid for the negative advertising.) |
|
 | reply to howie1 I'll never understand why they keep saying News 12 as their marketing hitch.
Sadly, I'll have to go with OOL service considering all Verizon is offering me in Newark is dsl
WTB Fios in Newark pst. |
|
 | I don't know either. Hopefully you can get FIOS in your area soon. It's really great, you'll love as I do and others that have made the switch. |
|
 | reply to Uncle Buck Same thing here, I live in Newark. =] |
|
 | reply to CVTech Well, if that is the case then it's the same thing with VZ. I think they are hypocrites because they accuse VZ for having hidden fees and a first bill confusion. |
