| | SB6120 VS DPC3000 I am looking for the best possible cable modem for my Comcast 22/5 connection. I think I have narrowed down the choices to these two modems. What do you guys think is the best possible cable modem? Which would you pick between these, or out of anything else? Thanks!! | |

|
| | Thanks. Just out of curiousity, does the 6120 have feet so you can lay it on its side? I hate how my older surfboards would always tip from the crappy design.
Anymore info / reviews / comparisons for the best cable modem would be greatly appreciated =D

|
| | I havent heard anyone complain about the DPC3000. I have heard people complain about the SB6120. I would go wit the DPC3000. Make sure you dont get an Ambit/Ubee. | |
|
| | Would love more info on these two asap. Buying today and need to make a choice. Would love pros and cons of both. Thansk!! Sry for the impatience. | |
|
| | | Re: SB6120 VS DPC3000 well. They are both pretty much the same. I would go with the cisco, I have had issues with the SB6120. (the DPC3000 has a better web interface too, it give you more info) | |

|
|
| | I might rent. Comcast offers both. I can't really find much info or reviews on the dpc3000. I have read about problems with the sb6120, and nothing really about the dpc. Any last minute advice is appriciated. Thanks. | |

| Re: SB6120 VS DPC3000 If you want an opinion, I've owned Motorola, Cisco & Linksys gear. Linksys now owned by Cisco is tried and true when it comes to gear. I own many modems currently for testing and I will say that Cisco/Linksys has always required less firmware updates than Motorola & usually provides more diagnostic info. -- Write me up a 125.......I Can't Drive 55 »redrocker.com/ »cabowabo.com/ | |

I am waiting for a Linksys docsis 3 modem to come out / become affordable to switch. I am assuming the new Linksys modem will show the provisioned rates. This has been very handy in the past when dealing with Comcast. -- Matt

| | | | | | | will comcast let that one be used? Cox only has two D3 modems approved so far. | |

I think there are just more on the network and they are easier to get, and as there are more of them in the wild you are just hearing about the ones that are having issues. Really though, they both seem to be good modems. Flip a coin if you really want, I chose the SB6120 because my SB5100 lasted for 5 years without any problems, all my Motorola Cell phones have been rock solid, but Cisco equipiment is really sound too. The SB6120 is easier to buy if your going that route. -- Duct tape is like The Force it has a light side and a dark side, and it binds the Universe together

| Granted I've only had my 6120 for a week (bought it) but I love it. Speed increased, it's GB WAN connected to the GB WAN on my new Buffalo router makes all my computers fly on the web.
All my cable modems have been Motorola over the past 10-12 years and have never had a problem.

Is it normal that I am only bonded to two channels, and not 3 or 4? . Is there anyway to bond to more? Do power levels and signal levels look ideal? I feel like my ping is very high for most servers (at my old house w/ 12/2 comcast, I was pinging 9-17 to seattle servers and no more than 25 to any server in washington state. Now I am in bellevue and I am pinging over 35-45 to even the closest servers.

I've had the SB6120 (ordered/owned - not rented - DPC3000 was not available for purchase at the time) for almost 2 months now.
The modem itself has been rock-solid (knock on wood) - was up for 23 days straight before I forced rebooted it the other day to see if it'd pull down the latest firmware (which it did).
I'm on 12/2 tier - 3 bonded channels down / 1 channel up. Speedtest.net tests have been consistently ~15.9/9.5.
Initial reports on the 'net related to the SB6120 indicated problems with an older firmware (pre-1.0.1.7). Mine came with 1.0.1.7 - and no issues / lag / etc. Currently - I'm running 1.0.1.8 and no issues since the "upgrade".
Definitely recommended - but as others have stated - Cisco is a great brand too (if you can find the unit you want for sale).
