| Uverse - Home Network over Powerline?
Hey everyone,
I'm not a Uverse user myself (I have a 25/25mbps Verizon Package)... however my uncle lives in an area covered by Uverse and recently changed all his services to them (Phone, Internet, TV).
He informed me when the Uverse installer came by he installed a box (the picture he sent me appeared similar to a 2wire device). There are two other computers in the home. He claims the Uverse installer put adapters on the power lines to distribute the signal?
I wasn't aware Uverse was doing something like this. He claims he now gets static on the phone and some of his audio recording equipment as well.
I have to look at the setup myself- but wouldn't the internet be distributed over Wi-Fi from the 2Wire if it's placed too far for ethernet? How does Uverse bring service into the home?
--- Example on my Verizon Fios it can be: Fiber ONT -> Coaxial -> Router / WiFi or Fiber ONT -> Ethernet -> Router / WiFi ONT handles Telephone / and TV service |

| He should place a service call to have the static problem fixed. They hooked my daughters computer up with the power line dongle and it was disaster. She got them to come out the next day and hook it up with cat5. We also replaced her cordless phone as she had some problems with it connecting. New cordless has no problems. They should be able to connect the computers with WIFI if they can't run cable. I have seen them try to use the power line connections several times and they didn't work. There are too many services placing signals on power lines today. I had X10 set up through the house. I finally had to get rid of it because of all the extraneous switching. |

| reply to FutureX2001 Hello this is Matt with U-Verse Tier II Technical Support. Yes we do use the ethernet over power adapters, the only reason we use them is when the wireless signal isn't strong enough to reach where the computers are locating, now we can setup a dispatch to come out and assess the situation at hand and possibly run Cat 5 (for no charge since the EoP adapters could be at fault for static) Or have them come out and check to see if there is something else causing the static, in most cases the EoP device doesn't cause issues. If you want I can call your uncle at his earliest convenience to walk through a few things with him, or send out a technician if need be. If you want to try that then please get his permission and private message me his telephone number.
Thanks, Matt
