Interesting news considering how fiercely independent Mountain Cablevision has been over the years!

This has me worried yet somewhat hopeful. I'm currently on vacation in a Shaw powered town, where their internet speeds are 15mbit and 25mbit depending on tier. They do however enforce a 100gb/mo bandwidth cap. I guess it would be too much to ask for the best of both worlds, shaw speed and MC's unlimited usage.

I'm very curious to see what changes are going to come from this.

I'm not pleased. I was hoping Cogeco would buy them...

That'd be worse imo..

The only thing im not too happy with is if theres going to be price increases and the fact that their internet tiers are all capped. Mountain also has usenet included, which is huge, and I dont think shaw does..

Their phone service for basic and regular tiers is reasonably priced yet they dont have any addon LD packages, only a flat 4c rate if im not mistaken, unless you go up to the full digital phone package which is more than 50$ but includes unlimited LD..

I dont know much about their TV packages so.. I guess we'll just have to see.

Edit: I'm hoping there wont be many changes. Maybe (Hopefully) they'll just leave most of the services/prices as is and possibly add some services or features/channels.

Wow, this is TERRIBLE.

There aren't any good cableco's left in Canada.

Shaw/Rogers/Cogeco, if I was asked to choose I honestly wouldn't know which one to pick, they're all worthless.

At least Rogers and Cogeco offer similar programming to Mountain, Shaw is gonna ruin the programming we have.... and if they do, im out.

I could careless about TV, there are better alternatives, not necessarily legal but unlike TV at most you only have 2 choices. Cable, or DSL - especially in Hamilton where competition is dead.

I think they do provide usenet service. From the link below it shows you how to setup your account. It would be a huge disappointment if there was no usenet. I think I would drop them immediately. I need my binaries. Period.

I also want to know if need to purchase or rent a new terminal. I have the basic digital cable and the $39 terminal that I got just last year. They better not make us buy another.

Shaw offers usenet yes, but its heavily filtered. You basically can only use it for text purposes. Binary is blocked.
