| Criminal background check?
I would like to do a quick background check on someone who is over 70, I know he has a record, and its not for a job or anything, just want to see what he was actually charged with a long time ago, he tells me stories and he doesnt even know. All the sites I see have scam in other places reviews. This would be a one time thing, and is for personal interest. Ive looked for free records in googles gov search and stuff, but no luck.
Id rather it be free, but does anyone know a fee cheap criminal background search I can do right away that's not a scam? Just one time, yearly not needed, but would be considered if it where cheap. |

1 edit | I doubt you'll find one for free. We do background checks for concealed weapons permits, etc at the town office through the SBI (free for the municipality) . And it's usually a 3-5 day turn around. You should contact the State Bureau of Investigations in the state you live. I found this from mine: SBI not only serves law enforcement agencies, courts, and prison systems, but is also a vital resource for lawyers, licensing agencies, employers, and the general public. This will give you what you seek
The statute of limitations could have removed things from the record of someone that's 70. -- An army of sheep led by a lion, will always defeat an army of lions led by a sheep. |

| reply to johnnyboyct This is going to be state/county/city specific and also depends on the type of record available. Different areas allow access to different information online. The only place your going to find that searches many locations is through a pay service. I'm pretty sure you can also request this information in writing.
Try searching online for city and county jail information. |

| reply to johnnyboyct In Hawaii, you can just go to »ecrim.ehawaii.gov ...logins are cc verified ($1) and searches are free. Getting actual records for people with histories costs money. I imagine a lot of states have something similar. These are all per-state, though. Some of the better PI sites have access to unified databases, taking the legwork out of doing it yourself.
A lot of jurisdictions also have court case info online, too... eg »www.courts.state.hi.us/page_serv···9C9.html
I know some people think this is an invasion of privacy... however, a public offense is a public matter. A least people don't have to wear scarlet letters anymore. -- My Site |

| reply to johnnyboyct Here in Ohio Bureau of Criminal Indentification makes you go through the police or a licensed private investigator to do a criminal bacckground check. Paying a private investigator is better for you anyways because some types of crime such as when general contractors refuse to pay a subcontractor do not get reported as crimes. It is common to have to sue for a paycheck in the building trades because people only volunteer to pay when they need you in the near future.
There are also instances where a subcontractor would rather walk away from not getting paid for the last 3 to 5 days. Also some general contractors have hidden assets that cannot be siezed to pay a judgement or are otherwise very slippery which makes serving a summons very difficult. One of the reasons why contractor bonding exists is that nobody wants to work for a general on a large job unless the general puts up a payment bond. |
