| 2wire 2701HG, red internet light , help please
yesterday afternoon our service stopped abruptly (linking DSL light, no internet light) , they called in a tech to visit us today .. He called me at 11 this morning and said the problem was outside and that he would have to climb the pole to fix it . He requested that we leave the modem powered up and plugged in , and said he would not need access to our house.
Now we are experiencing a red 'internet' light and have no connectivity. I cannot reach the tech on the line he called me from , and qwest is closed today. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I did hit the reset button on the back of the modem last night (for longer than 10 seconds) so it did perform a reset. Im wondering if this might be part of the issue , or if the red light just means qwest hasnt fixed the problem yet.. I have misplaced the IP adress and password to access the modems config page as well . I know there is a method to re-acquire my IP adress , and assume that when i reset the modem it also reset my password ( and possibly other settings that arent allowing it to connect to the internet now)
hoping someone here has an answer so I dont have to sit on the phone with qwest for an hour , or wait till monday or tuesday for a second tech visit .. (btw , is it normal for the tech to just do his thing up the pole and never call us back to see if our internet is working ?) |

| problem solved . . it was me hitting the reset button ( which as its title would suggest reset my username and password) .. now i just need to go to the modem setting page and put them in .. and the tech was VERY cool , called back and looked up my username and password since i had misplaced them .. i should be happily abusing the internet for online gaming again this eve !! |

| Technically pressing the button and releasing it immediately does make it act like a computer reset button.
Pressing and holding it for 10 seconds makes it act like a hard reset (erase all settings) button.
So sometimes it does reboot the modem. -- I'm not a tax dodger, I'm a potential cabinet appointee! |
