I have a sb5100. If I upgrade to a sb6120 would there be a noticeable difference. I am in San Diego and I have the premier package. |

2 edits | reply to air_jordan Upgrading to SB6120 will just improve the cable signals and while being on the premier tier will not give you any bonding channels yet since that they only give you just single channel on downstream and upstream directions for while till there is new tier beyond primer tier that will enable up to four bonding channels on SB6120 as DOCSIS 3.0 only.
That my SB6120 SNR is 38 dB that is major improvement signals over older SB5100, comparison to SB5100 about be SNR 35. -- Professional Linux environmental blows microsoft windows out of the water. |

1 edit | I'd doubt that what you saying... on the old my SB5100 SNR was 35-36 dB then now that my new SB6120 SNR is 38 dB that really near 40 dB that is excellent signal conditions, that were major improvement of a signals. -- Professional Linux environmental blows microsoft windows out of the water. |

| Nah, not really. that doesn't mean anything that hears from my cable modem and it is major improvement this new SB6120 cable modem solves some major signals over the old SB5100 cable modem and also that doesn't mean that cmts hears any screams where what i gets 50 dBmV of upstream while i gets 3Mbps to 5Mbps, neither that knocks my cable modem offline. -- Professional Linux environmental blows microsoft windows out of the water. |

| reply to air_jordan I am going to call cox because I have noticed a major drop in speed. I use to be able to easily get the premier speeds or more. Now I'm only getting 10 if I'm lucky. The weird thing is nothing has changed in my setup. I posted a few weeks ago with all my info and one of the cox mods took a look and even updated my firmware. So I think something is going on. Downstream Value Frequency 855000000 Hz Locked Signal to Noise Ratio 33 dB Power Level -14 dBmV
Upstream Value Channel ID 1 Frequency 24304000 Hz Ranged Power Level 48 dBmV |

1 edit | reply to ajwees41 On the old cable modem that frequency were same and on new cable modem that frequency is still a same, the downstream frequency is 651Mhz but SNR is improved on the new cable modem as SB6120 over the old SB5100 cable modem. -- Professional Linux environmental blows microsoft windows out of the water. |

| reply to air_jordan I have 2 modems in my house and both run the same even at different levels. 1 modem has a 9 db pad on it and yes they are right next to eachother..
a 5101 and a 6120 the 6120 is padded to TX at 55 @ -14 dbmv's w/ a sn of 35
the 5101 at a SN of 36 transmiting at 45 and a downstream of -5.
If you already have guessed the modems are side by side. I get constant 25+ downloads on both modems which are on premeir. I am stress testing the 6120 which obviously is workign the same. Only issue which is done on purpose is the HIGH TX causes an occasional reboot/reset |

| reply to air_jordan Cox would like to see a downstream SNR of at least 35 dB; your number is only 33 dB. Also, your downstream power (-14 dBmv), while still within the DOCSIS range of +/- 15 dBmv, is close to the lower limit, and it might perhaps drift even lower from time to time. It would be best to have this within a +/- 10 dBmv window (+/- 5 dBmv would be even better).
Make sure that all of your connections are tight, and verify that there is no more than one splitter between where the cable enters the house and the modem's input connector. If the numbers are still poor after you have done this, either you have a defective modem or there is a more serious issue that will require a tech visit to correct. |
