I saw something about them now having 0+ calling to international destinations for additional rate per minute. Is that what you're referring to?

Ugh - more nickel and diming. Geez! I just noticed this now, and their published rates for international dialing are completely nuts! I would have thought they might come up with something competitive at least.

Cogeco's pricing:

France Land Line 10c/min, Cellular 45c/min
Netherlands Land Line 10c/min, Cellular 39c/min
Russia Land Line 30c/min, Cellular 29c/min
United Kingdom Land Line 10c/min, Cellular 49c/min

Go for the Goldline Prepaid card that they also provide a link to on their website and the rates are:

France Land Line 2.5c/min, Cellular 20c/min
Netherlands Land Line 3c/min, Cellular 27.7c/min
Russia Land Line 2.5-6c/min, Cellular 8.3c/min
United Kingdom Land Line 2.5c/min, Cellular 22.2c/min

Go to other VoIP providers online:

France Land Line 1.49-3c/min, Cellular 16-25c/min
Netherlands Land Line 3c/min, Cellular around 25c/min
Russia Land Line 1c/min (Moscow), around 3-5c/min elsewhere, Cellular 7.5-8.5c/min
United Kingdom Land Line 1.04c/min, Cellular around 25c/min

Just another example of how out of touch Cogeco is with pricing (thinking of the newly announced Ultimate Internet tier here).

"Access to International calling. View our competitive international rates."

Hah - competitive! What a bunch of malarkey. I'm ready to drop Cogeco's telephone and internet service. Constant increases and out of touch pricing is starting to get on my nerves.

Yah I see no new phone package on their site. Though I doubt any new package can come close to beating what I pay now for phone. $5 a month in total.

Cogeco is completely out of touch with just about every service they offer. It's all about profit now and pleasing investors.

Just one glance at those rates tells me all that.

I read in some other forum that they are now offering (the custormers about to quit) phone for 25$/month with limited usa/canada (may be 100 minutes) for 12 months. Apparently it is not listed on the website, but is offered to those who call. I also read that they will roll this "not all in one phone" out by the end of summer.

To update I saw the link for phone usage besides my internet usage link in "my accounts". That indicates some limited usage thing with phone being worked out.

I saw that too - but yeah, not working yet I guess. I just wish they could've come out with international dialing pricing that was a bit better.

I just reviewed the digital phone costs again after signing up almost a year ago. I am dropping Cogeco Phone services prior to my 1 year introductory rate....which at $45 is outrageous in itself. I wanted to be comfortable with the phone services while I had my ADT alarm system setup so the phone/alarm sat on the residential side and my internet on a separate box on the commercial just for reliability & better stability. I was paying $30 with Primus voip for 5 years prior. The new packages would have net me more than my old Bell package days. Absolutely rediculous prices Cogeco. Way to bury yourselves. I cannot imagine who Cogeco thought internally was their smart people to price out all of their services the way they are. They hiring people straight off the short bus for the big offices?

I am afraid you have missed the point. Cogeco does not offer phone to compete with regular VoIP or low-cost providers. They want to get the high-paying customers from Bell, those who pay over $50/month for all those extras (call-display, voicemail, etc). This is where all the profits are. Their LD rates are comparable (if not a bit lower) than those of Bell only (Bell's various LD plans, I assume)

Agreed, but I find it funny how all those features are available through VoIP for under $20 / month or less.

Yeah, if you go with 3rd party VOIP, you still rely on Cogeco's infrastructure and the quality of service/reliability cannot be controlled as well as Cogeco could on theirs.

The cheapest option is just to pay for SIP accounts and get a SIP phone (or use a softphone on a computer).

I just dropped the full service for a lite version which is $29 a month. It has 100minutes of LD per month, and two extra service (we took Caller ID and Voice Mail). All we need.

How was this tier offered to you? Did you call and request it? Threaten to cancel?
