Interesting site.

Something strange to ME on that site is that the BIG GUYS are not listed, and if the point is to have a 'One-Stop' info site, this is a significant shortcoming, IMNSHO.

OTOH, they list quite a few of which I was NOT aware.

One notably missing local/regional ISP is RipNET, who has been serving Leeds & Genville counties out of Brockville, Ont since 1995, and has added Licensed Dedicated Frequency Wireless service (from several towers) during the time since.

I wonder what sort of reason would keep them off this list - Politics ?

And are any others missing for similar reasons ?

They also don't list Colosseum. Best ISP around IMO. Unlimited, no caps. $34.95 a month. Can't beat them. Teksavvy is good, but they have too much downtime for "Routine" stuff, and can't/won't match the price for no cap.

In 15 months now, I have been without a connection for about 8 hours total. TS can't say the same.

(Bonus for me is, 99% of the time I am not throttled, no need for mlppp). Just saying.. they get no love. They deserve some.

Unless they use their own DSLAMs, they'd be throttled 100% of the time. If you're unthrottled 99% of the time, you're lucky, and would be so regardless of ISP.

The lack of MLPPP is kind of a problem, both because they don't provide any way around throttling, but also because they don't provide a way to bond two lines.

I don't think you get how it works. ISPs are the ones who request to list themselves, if they choose to.

You are correct, sir - I didn't catch that before.

From that, it also begs the questions :

DO all of the big and not so big players we mentioned even know of this site, and IF they do, then did any choose not to be listed, and if not why not ?

Was only pointing out that they get no love. They are cheaper, have no cap, and also have local tech folks to help.

Also, they are never down. I read the posts.. TS seems to be down waaaay too much for my taste. I have been offline for maybe 8 hours or so since March of '08.

TS wishes they had that kind of uptime.

My best friend uses TS.. she is calling me all the time asking why her 'net is down. I come on here.. and tell her. TS is doing this that or the other. They are claiming Bell is doing this or that at this time.. Meanwhile, we live 2 km apart, and I am never down. Give TS all the love you wish, I prefer uptime.

I must agree. Frequent stops and outages, and the email continuosly has something wrong with it. I have an account with another ISP too, and can switch settings back and forth when TS is acting up, and never a problem with my other.

It is definitely TS's system. Old? Overloaded? Don't know!

Go back a year, prior to Bell throttling and the ensuing MLPPP related problems. We had up time of 2+ years on most of our gear. We obviously place a high priority on up time.

Combine this with a large upgrade, very few have the redundancy we now have in place. You will notice that the last few maintenance windows people noticed very little downtime as a direct consequence. We now have more excess capacity then most have in total capacity at this point.

I also disagree about your 8 hour reference. Most of the problems where a quick disconnect and reconnect. The majority have not felt more then 8 hours of down time. I would even argue that the majority of our customers barely noticed anything at all and that most only noticed because we told them or that we gave advanced noticed of it.

The fact that we are extremely open with all these things also gives an appearance of something other then what it may actually be. Most others, are not so forth coming with their changes or their problems. The fact that we have tried to be as open as we have, is basically what you're talking about here. It's generally for this reason that most companies don't talk about these things.

All of this, of course does not change the fact that we have had more problems of late then we were traditionally known to have. We do however have every intention of returning to those ways.

I'm obviously partial to this, since, it's basically my first priority to maintain and maximize up time. This is another one of those things that I just don't like to hear, but, I am listening.

Marc. I only report what I know, what I experience, and what I hear. I don't have the recurring problem of 12am-6am that you do. I don't know exactly how you are improving things you have no control over, and frankly I don't care. I am always online when your service is down. I just relay why you say you are down to my friend a small distance away when she is without service. Hours at a time, might I add. Be patient I say, they are working on it.

Further, email that you will/may be down does not make it ok. My point was/is that you use the same copper that my ISP does, and when she is down and moaning using your service, I am up and running without interruption.

Bottom line is, for such a widely accepted "Top notch" ISP, you boys are offline a fair bit. Can't blame it on Bell like you do a fair bit of the time (No Bell lover here.. hate..much hate). You guys play with your junk too much.

Your friend should learn how to check e-mails and read them.

I've never gone down for more than 20 minutes during any of the maintenance windows. Most often the connection just bounced (disconnect then reconnected right away). If your friend is going down for hours she is failing at something.

Almost all of the problems outside the maintenance windows (which again your friend can read about in her e-mail) are Bell problems, especially since the MLPPP users were separated from the rest.

Edit: Does your glorious ISP have their own forum where people come to complain/post about their problems? I think that this kind of visibility gives people an inflated perception. Especially when you get many threads about problems due to crappy lines or Bell tinkering. Not only would things be roughly the same frequency with other providers, for the most part we don't hear about the thousands of people with no problems. Maybe I'll start a new topic every day: "Service still working great!"

Love it.. has to be a user problem. Typical. Not at all.. was waiting for one of these. TS rules posts. Next time (which won't be long from now) that TS needs to update something and she is down, I will simply mention to her that the email solves all the problems.. and to just love it! TS rules!

Did you miss the part about me never going offline, while she is because of these TS routine things?

Waiting for someone to bait into your trolling? I'm not going to keep arguing with trolls.

If your friend is down for hours and the maintenance windows are a surprise, yes she has problems. Good night.

Edit: Maybe she was down for hours like the rest of us when 151 Front caught on fire?

Just lucky that your ISP was on a different floor that's all. The power was shut off on the 7th and 8th.

I have a feeling she's running a crappy line or is overloading it. I had a similar issue for awhile, disconnects when I was actually using my connection a fair bit. the end result was my profile was lowered because of my distance from the CO (~5km). Since then (about 1 year) I've only had 2 or 3 spots of less than 5min downtime at like 4am.
