@speakeasy.net | Quick question.
I'm recently signed up for DSL (5mb) and I'm getting 1.5mb. I did an online support ticket thinking it was just a mistake and they said it's the best they can do because I'm 4.6km from CO. Is that normal for that distance? |

| reply to drek Unfortunately that doesn't help me as I game a lot and would like the lower ms. I went through a bunch of trouble getting this line set up and back and forth calls and it's finally up and running and I'm getting 1.5mb. It's so frustrating. I guess all I can do is call them up and cancel and go on cable. |

If you really wanted to go higher, you can setup a dry line and bond two connections but it would be very expensive for the low throughput so if that is out too then cable would probably be your only other choice. |

You could post your line data from your modem. Some modems calculate the line capacity. |

@speakeasy.net | I'm not sure how to do that, sorry. I tried navigating to the factory IP of my modem but no luck. |

@speakeasy.net | reply to drek Yeah that's a little too much. Fantastic now I'm stuck with rogers and a bandwidth limit. Crap. Thanks for the quick replies guys. |

@speakeasy.net | reply to drek I got into the modem's setting. Here are some stats:
Attenuation: Down 63db up 31db SNR Margin : 9.5 11.0 db Data Rate : 1728 640 kbps |

1 edit | reply to drek 4.5 km is likely a low estimate given 63 db is almost the limit and your SNR margin is low so on fast path there is no way you can get any higher because each new profile requires another 5 db. You are definitely at the max. The next profile would push you to the limit and likely lead to instability. |

Attenuation: Down 63db up 31db SNR Margin : 9.5 11.0 db Data Rate : 1728 640 kbps 63 and 31 are the display limits. The binary equivalents of 99999 and 9999. IOW, your signal is so weak it's off the scale.
Sounds like your modem may be a TD-8610, since other modems have more information, including error counts and line capacity estimates.
5 years ago people would have been quite satisfied with your data rate. |
