| Barracuda -- The Opposite of Intelligent Filtering?
I've been getting a little more up close and personal with a Barracuda lately, and I'm shocked at how negligible a feedback loop it provides in its operation.
After a lot of looking, it seems the only ways a user can report false negatives (i.e., spam that the filter missed) is by a button in Outlook (if that happens to be the user's e-mail client AND someone has installed the plugin) or by forwarding the spam, with headers, to spam@barracuda.com.
What kind of intelligent spam filter is that? The whole point of smarter filters is that they have feedback loops in place that customize the filtering to the needs and experiences of end users, or at least end organizations.
Instead, Barracuda (which is really just a $5,000 box that runs free SpamAssassin software as far as I understand) allows ONLY a giant general inbox of spam at Barracuda -- with no reporting to your own specific box -- with the hope that it will be assimilated, processed, and eventually pushed back down to your box in a general update?
And yet they have the nerve to have a "Bayesian" section in the admin console? Am I missing something?

| said by B :... Am I missing something? -- B I only have a limited passing experience with Barracuda from several years back. I believe they use several lists and have a hybrid of their own called BRBL:»www.barracudacentral.org/rbl which they also make available for free use. They do not push customized filtering lists, so their reporting feature is global. In addition to spam[@]barracuda.com they can also be submitted directly at »www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/sup···bmit.php
You can add your own DNSBLs filters, as well as block by domain, IPs or address. »www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/pro···hots.php As I recall, back then it hovered ~ 80% effective. I guess, whether it is worth the price of admission, depends on the environment / user and how effective it is.
