Firefox 3.5.1 crashes with Chase banking website

Has anyone else had problems with Firefox 3.5.1 and banking sites. I was OK with 3.5, but when I upgraded to 3.5.1 it started crashing when I tried the Chase Banking site. It may be the patch for the Norton Toolbar. Has anyone else noticed problems with Secure web sites. Some people report disabling the Norton Toolbar fixes the problem. I have not tried this because I re-installed 3.0.11.

I do not have a Chase Banking Account but the site appears to be working normally in Fx v3.5.1 on Vista64.

I have two Chase credit cards. The site is working normally for me with 3.5.1. But I don't use Norton.

Masonjar,

I have noticed the exact same problem on chase.com and have mentioned it on the Norton Users Forum. If you disable Norton Toolbar, you can access the site without a crash. But since Firefox 3.0.11 was extremely stable and will be supported till January 2010, I too decided to revert to Firefox 3.0 and wait for Symantec to come up with a revised hotfix for Norton Toolbar--one that actually fixes all the issues!

I'm able to access my Chase account fine with FF 3.5.1. I do run Norton AntiVirus but I do not have a Norton Toolbar. I just have that Norton IPS 1.0 plugin that still shows as incompatible.

The Norton Toolbar hotfix does not work with chase.com. It causes Firefox 3.51 to crash.

It's Norton! FF 3.5.1 has no issues in regard to Chase.com.

The patch worked with Firefox 3.5 but did not work with Firefox 3.5.1. So there is still a problem with Norton and Firefox 3.5.1 and some secure sites.

There - fixed that for you. The problem is Norton - alone.

Get rid of Norton and get real security product like Kaspersky or NOD32.

Hi masonjar,

Can you please provide me with the exact address that is in the Firefox Address field. Please right-click on the link, choose "Copy Link Location" and then paste it into your reply. I will then be able to look into the issue more closely.

Also, please let me know if you are using Norton Internet Security or Norton 360, and the exact version number as well.

Thank you,
Mike

It can happen anytime during a session. Sometimes during sign in and other times later. Sometimes I can complete one or two pages before it crashes.

Hi masonjar,

The latest version of Norton Internet Security is 16.5.0.135, so you do need an update.

Please try the following steps to see if it resolves the problem.

1. Uninstall Firefox 3.5.1

2. Restart your computer.

3. Manually run LiveUpdate and then restart after the updates have been applied.

4. Reinstall Firefox 3.5.1.

If you have any other third-party Add-ons, disable them and then test the Chase.com site and let me know if you still experience a crash.

Thank you,
Mike

Michael:

I just updated to 135, even though earlier when I checked the Norton Website it said I did not have too, because the change would not effect me. Since the crashes started I have gone back to Firefox 3.0.12, so I cannot check the crash problem. I will stay with this version till everything is fixed.

Thanks
