Note that when upgrading through the router page it appears to do nothing, just leave it on the page as it will take like 2-5 minutes before it starts to upload the .bin file.

No, you can't limit download speed by Ethernet port.

The firmware is clearly a 'work in progress' on this unit and they are looking at a few other things I've raised. For example the Bandwidth Management setting for VOIP is TCP, while VOIP traffic is nearly all UDP - that kind of thing.

So the conclusiton is if you pair the router with Athero or Broadcom's client cards, in either N or G mode, wireless connection is fine. No suddent drop.

Avoid Ralink or Intel's client cards for sure then.

Can you test the connection in B mode?

I have a wireless print server that is B standard.

If the connection quality with a B client card is ok, then I decide to pick up this router again.

Another question, which brand offers Broadcom's client card? Brief observations so far:

1. Its basic routing performance is superb. Web browsing etc is noticeably snappier than on the DIR-855 Dlink (which is not a bad unit by itself).

2. Wireless signal strength is also amazing - that antenna array in the x-550NH package is big, beautiful, and it WORKS. 91% signal strength through two double brick walls.

3. Atheros clients connect reliably and stay connected. I've been getting the odd disconnect with Ralink hardware, namely an EW-7416APn access point (802.11n). How often this happens needs more testing. I'm wondering if the wireless QoS on the router side may be an issue.

4. The firmware is very sparse on features and has a very 'beta' feel to it. There are some silly mistakes, such as being forced to give your upload speed in whole Mbps following the March 09 update.

Does the AMX 4 (ie international) firmware allow changing the wireless protocol? The latest US firmware for the equivalent NBG-460N doesn't give any choice. Even with the firmware upgrade the problem is still there.

The wireless connection will be on and then suddently disconnect.

If you use P2P software or other heavy ftp sharing software the router does not offer stable connection like its previous model X550.

Yes, only G mode.
