I don't know about your ears but your EYES are damn good! You took one look at the photo of my reel-to-reel tape deck and immediately identified it as a Sony TC-630!

Besides, I don't think *my* ears are good enough to detect the difference between headshell wires unless they were REEEEALLY bad ones! I can't tell $100 Monster Cable wires from a coathanger... nor can many others, btw...

| reply to Steely Yeah, well I owned one during my "Formative Years". I bought it my junior year in high-school with all my summer job money, and I was the envy of the whole audio-video geek squad! I just recently disposed of it. The heads were too far gone to have lapped, and finding new ones was very difficult, and expen$ive. -- One man's Magic is another man's Engineering. |

those must be the newer version of the one my father used to have.. I found them about 2 months ago.. had them since the early 90's.. I lost the 1/4 adapter that goes to it however. And the padding is starting to come apart a little in a few sections. -- It's NOT Ni-kon It's NE-KON!

said by howie :I ended up ordering an Ortofon SH-4 Headshell. You guys are lucky in that your turntables can use headshells of a more-or-less of a universal type. My Dual requires a proprietary "sled-type" headshell adapter...
Fortunately, these guys are still widely available...even if, at around $40 a pop, a bit on the expensive side! |

Thanks, I like how it looks, too (pretty much the same shape as my original). It's a few bucks cheaper than the Technics @$25, and it looks like cartridge installation will be a snap with this (it appears pretty much flat, with no "lip" to deal with). |

I guess a spare "sled" or two makes it really easy to change carts on the Dual! |

Here's a short YouTube video of my old Sony PS-3750 and AT440MLa Phono Cartridge... 32 years and still going strong, with no repairs or maintenance required in all that time.

4 edits | reply to dogfish3 The new Ortofon SH-4 headshell finally came today... It's really well made (Japan), and installing my Shure V15-IV/VN45MR phono cartridge was not that difficult, although I still hate doing it!
Here are a few pics.... |

It's even cooler looking than I thought it would be. The wires look nice too. My Technics wires don't have gold plated connectors. Yeah... I know the red AT wires have them, but I still don't like them... lol. |
