1 edit | Every other night high pings
every other night since last week and sometimes during the day my ping times skyrocket. makes playing games online unpossible and slows all web transactions to a crawl.

1 edit | You didn't take your IP out, you took Google's IP out Tracing route to www.l.google.com [xx.xxx.xxx.xx]
Looks like Wow is using XO as a content delivery system in your area. When I ping the xo.net routers from here, I get 30-20ms response times.
You first high ping is to 172.31.17.238.
Ping that IP address, if it's high call WOW. Tell them you are experiencing LAG, and extremely high ping times to your first hop. Make sure you have the above trace route, recent ping info, and a couple of others for good measure, in front of you when you call. This will help WOW track down the weak link. |

When you call Tech support, and say "Hey my connection is messed up", what do you believe they will have him do?
By having the information once he calls in already prepared, this shortens the actual call time, and allows the the Support Rep on the other end to skip the "Reset PC, Connect directly to Modem, Reset Modem" steps.
What sounds better? My connection is slow. Fix it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111++++
Or - I seem to be getting 1000ms+ ping times to 172.31.17.238. I'm already connected directly to the modem. Ping times to my modem and default gateway are sub 3ms. |

1 edit | reply to acme421 yeah i only call tech support to fix the issues on their end. everything with my own network i can reach and fix. that said i was trying to make sure i was correct in the assessment that it was my first hop that was the problem. wow has some sort of thing where the tracert always has the router closest to you unpingable so i wasnt sure. but yeah im gonna call em next time it flares up and see what they can do about it. it messes up during prime gaming time. |
