[Beginner] Configuring Address book and email auto complete

I am new to Mac. I have OS 10.4.6 Leopard.

I recently successfully imported my contacts from my Windows machine to the address book on my Mac.

However lets say a email addressee in the Mac address book is for Joe Smith with an email address of jsmith@sbcglobal.com.

All of that got imported but the autocomplete only works if I type in the "To:" field the jsmith@sbcglobal.com and not what I want which is to type in "Joe Smith" and have the address book automatically know to send it to Joe Smith--which is how Windows works.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

When exporting the address book from Windows into a text file you have to make sure you check the right box choices to transfer ALL of the relevant information to be transferred to the max via flash drive.

Then when you open the address book in the Mac you must be sure to check the right arrows to display all of the relevant information to be displayed as you type you Mac email client "To:" address so it shows as the person's name and not the email address.
