internal vs. external modems

I was wondering if I would notice any difference in connection speed and overall performance if I bought an external modem. I am running windows xp with a conexant internal modem. thanks

V.90/92 modems support data compression. That means link between PC and modem should be significantly faster then modem connect rate. As a minimum serial port should support 115 kbps, 230 is better.

Internal modems use the main processor for some tasks that an external modem does internally. Given the performance of PCs now a days it shouldn't make a difference.

Bottom line I doubt you will notice any difference.
