| [OC] Not sure how to over clock memory...
Just built a killer system, i7 920 cpu, gigabyte ex58-ud5 board, 6gb crucial ballistix tracer memory and an radion 4870 video card. The memory shows up as 1066 and I believe it is capable of 1600 - is this mod really worth it? I really dont want to tax the system, I play some call of duty, and command and conquer - but nothing hard core.
Also I'd be curious to hear what the i7 can do under natural cooling. I have a 100 mm exhaust fan, 100mm over the hdd's and have 6 hdd's. 2 40mm on the side sucking in. -- »www.devicemanager.net |

| What's the exact model of your memory?
Sure, the 'mod' is worth it if your system can support the various options you'll need to change to bump things up. I7 memory controllers are 'new' and don't function like anything you've ever used before, so it's not as simple as bumping up a single number to a higher megahertz. |

The above is directly from my newegg order. Just a heads up I am probably going to get another 6gb kit in the near future. But I would assume that the memory banks get overclocked in a whole right? -- »www.devicemanager.net |

| What board are you using?
Pardon my ignorance, but how do you overclock the memory. I checked the bios and there are a zillion settings for the memory - what exactly makes it run faster? -- »www.devicemanager.net |

| I'm using an Intel DX58SO board.
There's plenty of options, all tied together now... QPI rate, cpu core multiplier, plenty of RAM speed options... and a lot more.
I don't have any experience with your Gigabyte board to offer you any suggestions but forums like xtremesystems can be helpful. |
