How to get help from Primus (NON INDIA)

I'm calling on behalf of my parents who have their long distance/highspeed and phone through primus. If Primus has their own dslam in the KW area than they should be on Primus' 7mb plan correct? I've run speedtests from speedtest.net and speakeasy speedtest and consistently am only getting between 1.5 and 2.5 mbs.

I talk to the india rep and he says to go through speedtest.primus.ca

Now that speedtest shows me at 5.5 and 6.0 mps. So what's up with this discrepancy.

Because at the bottom line, my parent's internet experience is much slower than what a 7mb line would offer.

Can I get any help from a Canadian primus rep personally to look into this for my parents?

Didn't Primus make a post in this very forum that they brought back the call center to Canada?

I was under the impression Primus was now handling calls in Canada and not India anymore?

They made a few press releases about this.

Things changed?

Well the primus tech I just talked to was indian...now of course he could be an indian in Canada but I'm dubious of that.

And I'd really like to know why speedtests from reputable sites like speedtest.net and speakeasy were showing the same values of around 2mbs and yet the primus one shows 5.5 roughly?

First the Canadian call centre is apparently still in transition. Also it only applies if you subscribe to the Triple Value Bundle. The guarantee doesn't apply to everyone. However just hang up and call again. Half the time you will get the New Brunswick call centre.

The Primus speedtest is correct. Once it leaves Primus' network there are lots of other routers and equipment along the way that can slow down your connection. That's out of the hands of Primus. Since you're testing 5-6 off the Primus speedtest then everything is fine.

Thats not correct, it shows his line is getting 5-6mbit, which means his line might be ok.

However, Primus's connections to the internet could be overloaded which leads to the low speeds, and Primus would be responsible for fixing that.

It definitely looks like your ISP wan network is overloaded.

Might be a good idea to start doing traceroutes and/or mtr (www.electronicbox.net/download/ to download mtr software)

to the destination server to see if there is any jump in the latency too.

»Primus offers "Canadian" customer service

The above link is the last recent thread about primus and Canadian customer service. There is a link for the May thread about the same thing.
I called them last month and spoke to a guy who was in Toronto. I was asking about the 7 meg profile for my area. Unfortunately I need to go to Bell if I want it as Primus can't do anything for me.(no Dslam in Woodstock)

All our DSL and Home Phone customers are now served from Canada (some LD/calling card calls/overflow still might be routed to India). One caveat here: to be recognized as DSL or Home Phone customer you mus either dial from your home phone number (that is registered with Primus) or enter your account number when prompted.

If you PM me your account number, I will ask our tech to have a look at your speed.

Get your parents to switch to Teksavvy, 100% Canadian and cheaper to boot! Exactly ZERO calls routed to India, EVER.

I think the reason they wouldnt' switch is it's cheaper with the bundle from Primus and they get alot more of the phone options in that bundle and the long distance rates are better?

Very simple, press 2 for French and you'll get someone from Quebec that speaks English.

I do this with BellER every time I call.

yes, when bundled, primus appears to have good pricing (I haven't check in over 6-months though).
