| [DISH] Put it too Dish Network
I have to thank the stuff I have been reading on Broadband Reports on how to deal with media companies over the years.
I put the boots to Dish Network. I had to replace my years old DVR. the new unit required a installer because he had to re-do my antenna with a dual feed. That done I started to enjoy the new DVR. The replacement unit lasted about two weeks. It started recording only in black and white. I called the support line and the tech agreed the unit was bad and sent me a replacement, When I took the old unit off of the shelf I learned what was wrong. I could hear something knocking around in side. The only thing it could be was the hard drive. what I don't understand is how could the installation guy not pick up on the fact there was something loose inside, until I moved it to install the replacement I had not touched it. I placed the knocking DVR it the Box and set it back. Today I got my bill and I had a 300 dollar charge on it for a damaged DVR. I called Dish up and asked what was going on. The lady on the other end explained that I have sent them a unrepairable unit as was being charged for it. I told her that the unit had been installed buy one of their installers and it had not touched the unit until I pulled it off of the shelf to replace it, and why didn't the installer pick up on the fact there was something loose inside what he pulled it out of the box. She then offered to slip the difference and only hit me up with a $150 dollars. Here is when I used what I have learned on Broadband Reports. I told the lady that I have been a loyal customer for many, many years and I would hate to have to drop dish Network and go to Direct TV over this issue. She instantly offered to take the 300 dollar charge off of my bill and threw in three month of HBO, Showtime etc for free. I didn't take her up on the offer for HBO and such. But I thanked her for taking off the charge and told her I would continue as a loyal customer. I was courteous with the lady and I got what I wanted. I knew I had Dish over a barrel because they can not afford to loose any customers.

I'm as quick to 'unload' as anyone else when it comes to stuff that just quits working, but the first thing I dont before I start my righteous rant is to assure the poor agent that I dont blame him, personally.
I also dont throw in facts and issues that have nothing to do with the particular problem. Make a cheat sheet:
How it worked before
Anything that might have changed things, like moving the equipment, thunderstorm, weird temporary drop-out occurrences. Service call for other matters, etc.
Also dont rule out 'operator goof up' I recently got egg on my face by insisting a printer went bad because I had inadvertently installed it twice on my PC and the system was looking for the old install when I clicked print. After a 1/2 hour the agent talked me into letting him remote my PC and that was what he found.. Gulp. Was I embarrassed. But like Hayward sez... |

3 edits | Yeah many had the receiver installed for them and the manual is probably un cracked in the plastic envelope.
But when I call DISH CS I cut a lot of BS by I know your script check list and already done it all...
1 Yes it is plucgged in, no its not on a switched outlet. 2 yes TV is on proper signal souce, 3 Yes I have rebooted the receiver. 4 Yes there are batteries in the remote (I note the new receives sense weak batteries to relive those idiocy calls) 5 I have checked the cable connections. 6 Yes the dish hasn't blown off the house.
So lets cut to the chase you have some that might actally wrong or you just want to get someone out here to check it out?
And usually then their first solution is to send a new receiver is problematic if a DVR, because returning the old one means loosing a lot of stored programing. Even when it is clearly like a LNB or just pushed firm/software not actual receiver problem. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)
