koshoka posted : Some people have claimed success at running a cable modem and DBS on the same cable with diplexers. The problem is that DBS requires voltage and adds noise to the line. Both are bad for cable modems. The one time I did see it working successfully, I had to run a new line for the customer anyhow, as it was feeding noise back onto the cable system.

Depending on your cable co, the install may be free (that should include running the new line if necessary.) With some providers like Comcast, it's actually cheaper to get limited basic cable TV and internet than internet alone.
--
*******
Disclaimer: I am a Comcast employee.
seginus posted : OK, I have VZ for internets and phone and am stuck on 1.5Mb DSL with FIOS a distant dream.
What I am thinking of doing is keeping Directv but dropping VZ for Charter (blecch) internet and phone. The question is how would the cabling work? I don't particularly want to run additional cabling just so I can have one cable modem hooked up but...

Any help/advice? Or should I just suck it up and hope FIOS eventually gets over here?

Thanks gang.
