| Rogers alternatives
Hello,
I've finally hit the last straw with Rogers and their cash grabs. I'm looking for alternatives to Rogers. I'd like to have 10Mb service with no download cap and the ability to have a static IP with no port blocking or traffic shaping. (OK this is probably a pipe dream.) Can anyone comment on the alternatives? I know cybersurf is a reseller and offering the same service I have today (10Mb) for less, but with the same download restrictions, but they claim there is no port blocking or traffic shaping (which I'm not sure I believe.)
Thanks, Sheldon. |

If you're fortunate enough to be in an area of the city that does get good quality DSL, bonding 2 lines is definitely an option (and would net you a faster upload speed than what you can get with Rogers right now) - though be aware of the overhead on DSL. You might connect at 10M (2x5M), but you'll speed test around 8.5M and actually download at 8M.
Cybersurf does offer service without port blocking or traffic shaping (and they don't really enforce their caps), but not everywhere. There are areas where their customers still use the Rogers network instead of Cybersurf's equipment and in those cases they face the same traffic management and download caps that Rogers users do (and will have a Rogers IP). I don't know if there's a way to tell which you would be beforehand. |
