Free, lightweight, and either portable or online FLV player?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a whole bunch of FLV files but I really don't want to install Realplayer. Can I play these in ITunes (and "see" them, too?)

I do.

Since I found it, I've not used anything else.

Deciding between VLC or KMplayer is kinda a personal choice thing...they both do the same things very well.

Mainly, I like the ability to play and save some pjsdhfsdhfdf no-extension file cached from a streaming website. If it can recognize the format, it'll play it no matter what the name is.

I regularly save FLV content from like YT, MV, etc. using it.

Paired with Clipnabber, it's rather awesome.

Same with DivX. I just pause the player, let it buffer, and watch it directly from the temp folder. Why deal with $hitty web-based Flash and DivX players when you can have total control?

Plus, I can adjust synch errors and even things like contrast and brightness with a keystroke. Save vidcaps, save clips, it'll even play those oddball .rmvb files providing you have the codecs.

Oh, and it can stream video by URL, do 'net radio and has modest playlist support too.

Basically, it'll play almost anything right out of the box with it's built-in codecs. Some things like the H.263/H.264, the .rmvb and a couple of weird old WMA/WMV codecs I had to download, but that isn't a big deal.

IDK why, but some older reviews say KM doesn't have good keystroke support...funny because I almost never even use the mouse with mine.

I do often use KMPlayer and VLC, but I have kind of settled on Klite Codec Pack with MPC homecinema. Works beautifully for everything including FLV files. For a standalone I used to use FLVplayer4free. It is also very good.

If you want something free and lite that is your best bet.

Sure. I don't like Realplayer, but instead use the Klite mega codec pack which includes Real Alternative. Of course, you can also use Real Alternative by itself without the Klite pack. Much better IMHO than Realplayer.

I personally have tried all the ones suggested in this thread and liked some and hated others, but the one i went with was Gom Player »www.gomlab.com/eng/ , plays anything and if there is something out there it can't play it finds the codec so it can play it.

On my computer, the approximate memory usage playing a 100MB flv file:

Wimpy 2.5.0.21 4,300k
Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 24,000k
VLC 0.9.8a 33,000k
The KMPlayer 2.9.3.1428 10,000k
Windows Media Player 11 28,700k
Gom Player 2.1.18 41,200k

Wimpy is the lightest, but it also has literally zero features. I actually prefer The KMPlayer or Gom because they both have sharpen filters as flv files tend to be poor quality. What is no-so-great about The KMPlayer is that there are too many features, so simple things can easily become an adventure.
