I am sorry I renewed my subscription to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. There is hardly anything worth reading in it anymore. In order to save money they have greatly reduced its size. With the instant nature of the internet, it seems like old news whenever there is something that might have been worth reading. I just don't see the paper surviving in its current format. I know I will not be renewing it again. --

| That's the version I will soon be using too. The newspapers know that. If they could they would go to an online subscription based service. Since there are so many free places to get the news, I don't think it would work. --

| reply to skj I've stopped getting the print version, but only because they don't deliver to my county anymore. It's not widely known, but you can subscribe to an online version of the AJC that is an exact copy of the print version, minus the ad inserts and Sunday comics.
It's a poor substitute, but I like having the "real" paper that I read from front to back. It forces me to look at every page and come across articles that I would not necessarily pick from an online menu. Plus, this way I still get the Fry's ad, which is oddly important to me.
I think they still have free 30 day trials available. After the trial, it's a mere $5 per month. Check it out at »ajcprint.com if you have any interest. And, no, I'm not affiliated, and I don't get a kickback. |

| I know it is supposed to be more like the actual paper you get, but why pay for an online version when it is free here? »www.ajc.com/ --

| reply to skj I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you only get about 40% of the articles.
FWIW, I last had a hard-copy subscription about three years ago. I too like the print copies for the articles I might not see otherwise, but I can't justify the cost anymore.
I have always read both the online and the print version primarily for the Metro section anyway, not the national news and certainly not the editorial section. -- My pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/xpkranger/ |

| I will not be renewing my weekly subscription when it runs out. I will still consider getting the Sunday edition. --

1 edit | reply to skj I just got a renewal notice today for Thurs-Sun and it spiked up to $147 for the year.
If they don't offer a Sundays only delivery at a good deal, I am passing on it. -- Satan is always busy. He makes bad things look good and good things look bad! Watch that Devil. |

| Wow. What a rip-off. If you still want the paper, however, you can call them and negotiate a lower rate. If they don't budge, just tell them good-bye and than call at a later date and they may be more amenable to give you a better rate. That is what I did. I am paying less than that for a 7 day a week subscription. I still don't think it is worth it, though. --

1 edit | Same thing happened to me. They usually keep delivering for a while even after the subscription expires. I would call back after it expires.
FWIW, I paid for a 1 year subscription. As noted, I also get the paper 7 days per week. I can't remember the exact amount, but it was somewhere between $120 and $130 for the year.

1 edit | reply to skj Here is some bullsh*t for you from the AJC:
I called them back a couple of times before my subscription ran out to get a lower price. They would not budge. So I let it expire.
The AJC kept sending me papers beyond my expiration date. Then, they stopped sending me the paper and sent me a PAST DUE notice for the papers in excess of my subscription expiring.
Well, well, well. I called the AJC and they said I should have called them to stop delivery and I owe them $31. I told them I did not sign anything stating that I am responsible for calling them and telling them to stop sending me papers beyond the date of the subscription I paid for and that is their issue, not mine's.
The lady tried to say it was a courtesy. At that point, I thought "it is time to cut this conversation short."
I told her the AJC was not getting $31 out of me because THEY decided to keep sending me a paper after my date expired. If I need to mail or fax a letter to someone stating this, I would.
She then said "I can take care of that balance for you but just know if you subscribe again, you would need to call us to stop the subscription beyond your expiration date." I told her I would not be subscribing again because of the pricing so there is no need to worry about that.
Now, I pick up the Sunday's paper for $1 and save significantly less than what they are charging to subscribe for Sunday only delivery.
The rest of the paper can be recycled and put in a stall to wipe people's a**es with because that is what the paper's value is nearing. -- Satan is always busy. He makes bad things look good and good things look bad! Watch that Devil. |

| I read about this being done before. If they want to send it to me after my subscription expires it will also be at their expense. --

| I got a call yesterday from their "promotions" department trying to give me better deals.
At this point, I only read the Sunday's paper - there is something about reading the paper on Sundays that seems just right - and I can pick that up for $1 down the street from my home. -- Satan is always busy. He makes bad things look good and good things look bad! Watch that Devil. |

| reply to skj I have been trying for a couple of years to get the Gwinnett Daily newspaper to stop littering my property. But, they not only continue, but now do it every day.
I do not like newspapers. I do not like picking up newspapers. I do not like having to pay to get rid of this litter.
No, its not a blanket-the-neighborhood condition, but for some odd reason they are targeting some homeowners for some odd reason. I spoke to a couple of neighbors last week and they hate it.
Nice how a business can litter private properties and zero recourse seems to be the game in the county. |
