macman4hire posted : caseydoug, excellent points, especially the about porting number and risking marriage! I plan on installing a Sip Sorcery on a server soon in case GV blocks it or Aaron is unable to provide the service for free any longer. Right now in am in love with Sip Sorcery the GV dialing out option. With that said I plan to renew my MagicJack subscription and have several account with PAYG VoIP providers how are extremely reliable for outbound alternatives. For inbound DID alternatives I have IPKall to very reliable over an extended period of time. Sipgate One is a reletivly new VoIP service provider who offers free a DID that has reliable so far. I very comfortable with my current setup as it contains many alternatives if one service should fail or be withdrawn.

caseydoug posted : You may be right, but just look at the weak links in this chain:

1. Google, which offers its service by invitation only, throws up roadblocks and changes on short notice, and may impose advertising or fees, or may drop the service altogether.

2. Gizmo5 -- 'nuff said.

3. Sip Sorcery (ne MySipSwitch). As great as he is, Aaron is something of a one-man band. Not long ago, he lost the load when his server crashed. Bless him for doing this, but how long can he keep it up without a revenue stream?

I have a couple of old ATAs and analog phones that I keep totally separate from my home telephone system. That's where I play with the eight or ten free VoIP services I subscribe to. Although I recently got rid of Qwest in favor of VOIPo, I don't think I could move my 35 year-old home phone number to any of these free services without risking my marriage. :)

RiverMerger posted : I spoke to soon he must have been reading this thread and actually did finagle with the rate. I am not sure if he thinks this makes it more clear but this revision takes away the first 3 minutes free! The change is yet to show up in the login screen. If you are trying to say it without taking away free time it would be said "First 3 minutes free $0.02 per minute after that." I suspect there is no mistake though. The 3 minutes is the teaser with no credit and then switches to this rate with credit.
This is the revision:
Gizmo Voice
$0/year US Number
$0.02/US minute
Same price for 1st and any minute thereafter
Total: $10.00+
»www.gizmovoice.com/

Just curious. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Mmmph.

That's a complex issue.

Reminds me that today I heard that after his extramarital affair, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford said he was "trying to fall back in love with his wife". Now, how is that lady supposed to feel ?! Geez.

So, perhaps unlike Governor Sanford, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

(Regarding Voip.MS, by the way, I use them for some incoming lines at my office, but not for my main business line. That's still POTS for the moment...)

I feel that Voip.MS is an up-and-coming company, with many attractive new features and many happy customers.

Being up-and-coming means that they had to up and come from somewhere, in the recent past or in current time.

CallCentric is a more established provider. They have long had a reputation for excellent customer service and Voip service that "just works". When I ported in my home number, it was as smooth as butter.

Voip.MS was/is not quite as established, at least in the US market, and had some bumps along the way in customer service. Yes, they have indeed worked hard to improve that area, and to improve their porting process. They also have been very responsive to customer suggestions and feedback.

I think that in my own experiences, as well as reading the comments of many forum members, CallCentric still has the edge in customer service. This is both in terms of speed of response and also getting issues resolved.

On the other hand, Voip.MS offers more ways to contact the company. Some folks prefer that. I also particularly compliment Voip.MS on its system for ordering DID's.

I do think that CallCentric shines with its support of SipBroker and SIP URI calling in general.

I am also impressed with CC's integrity and conservatism. They practically beg people not to port in a number until they are satisfied with the service. They also have strict policies on 911, seemingly stricter than other providers, but they follow their rules even if it costs them some business.

Likewise, in my customer service inquiries over some pretty trivial issues, CallCentric have shown themselves to be perfectionists about their service.

Someone said the other day that CallCentric's website was too much from the 1990's. Well, the 1990's were GOOD. I much prefer them to the 2000's.

Using CallCentric's website is fun!

Voip.MS's website allows me to do some things that are not available elsewhere, but I always feel that I should be in a shirt and tie when I log on.

I realize that's a highly subjective comment.

An early US space exploration satellite, Explorer I, reported much less radiation than had been expected. It was later realized that the radiation detectors had been overwhelmed and were simply not registering the hits. Subsequent satellites were sent up with more shielding and actually got more accurate (higher) readings.

That's how I feel about Voip.MS at times. It can be overwhelmingly complex. I don't suggest that it be palinized, but it could be more user-friendly. Again, I do compliment them on their DID ordering system.

I think that they are both good outfits, in the end....

Some very good folks are as enthusiastic about Voip.MS as I am about CallCentric.
