| Promo?
We've had service with MC for 2 years now. After the first year, our "new" customer promo was up which saw an increase in our monthly rates. At the end of our second, the rates have increased again "because your current promo has expired". Since they will not tell us what the promo was, nor do we have any idea of having a promo beyond the first year, can someone give me an idea of what this promo might have been? This increase is almost $30 over last month's charges. |

| reply to KiDD3 Welcome to the world of Mediacom pricing. It is the most convoluted pricing structure ever devised by man! You can have 10 people on the same block with essentially the same product and all 10 will be paying different amounts. The worst part is that the longer you are a customer with Mediacom the higher your price gets. How's that for rewarding long term customers? Many companies use existing customers to subsidize new customers but Mediacom takes it to an extreme and in my opinion unfairly treats it's long term customers.
The only time their prices are even remotely competitive are during the promotional periods. Once all promotional pricing went away their price was so absurd that I with Dish for TV. Better product at a much cheaper price. When I called to cancel they offered a 20% discount on TV for 3 months because the CSR indicated I said the magic word "satellite". I left anyways. I was sick of the games.
My advice, call up customer service and tell them your leaving unless you get better pricing. If that doesn't work then go ahead and switch. If you don't mind the hassle then you can switch back and get the promotional pricing. They will even pay your early termination fee from the satellite company. Anything to get a 'new' customer. |

And in my book you are either getting a great bargain or are still on a promo price. (Either that or Rantoul is a really low-cost market.) I'm paying $112.25/month (including taxes, etc.) for analog Family cable (no STB or cable card) and residential standard internet (8 MB). So the statement that everyone pays something different is definitely true, and Mediacom's rate sheets and web pages make it very hard to figure out what one should/could be paying if they want to make a switch or upgrade. But then then satellite, cell phone, and other vendors are just as bad with trying to figure out what something will cost to switch, normal (not promo) prices, hidden fees, set up fees, fine print, etc. |
