[General] Is there an Alltel or Verizon insider who knows what i

Does anyone know an Alltel or Verizon insider who can honestly tell us what is up with the merger? I would love to ask some questions - once I deflate and my cheeks turn from red back to their normal hue.

Re: [General] Is there an Alltel or Verizon insider who knows wh

After asking an AllTel sales rep about how the Verizon EVDO tower upgrades are coming along, I heard that the merger is apparently going to be completed around October 16th, after which it seems AllTel will cease to exist as a separate entity.

If you have been thinking about getting EVDO national wireless Internet from AllTel you have about 2 months to get it done, whether or not towers are upgraded near you yet.

AllTel contracts are unlimited bandwidth, but Verizon contracts have a 5 gig/month cap. AllTel contracts will be honored by Verizon after the merger.

.

Apparently all AllTel towers WILL get EVDO, though I don't know if that is absolutely certain to happen. It's a gamble preordering a service with a $175 termination fee, if they don't get around to upgrading your local tower before the AllTel unlimited plan is no longer available.

I don't think one has to worry about it being a gamble on ordering the service if it's already available in your location. If Verizon can't provide the service at an acceptable level after migration, as already served by Alltel, then the contract is void for inability to fulfill a contractible service agreement on the part of Verizon. The first thing to ask Alltel before signing up is if the Service is available at your resident address. You also have a grace period in which to return the card and void the contract.

I would also ask Alltel if the service had caps and would the unlimited service continue after migration to Verizon. This way you cover all the bases in the event you need to void the contract if Verizon is unable to fulfill the service agreement.

your contract is under alltel and therefor cannot be changed by verizon for any reason. Alltel has unlimited EVDO usage and that's what I still currently enjoy up to 11/26/09. After that I was told that so long as you don't change your phones or plans in any way, you can just keep paying the bill to keep the unlimited bandwidth part of the contract. After all, you are just extending your contract you had with alltel. Verizon can not make you switch to a verizon plan so long as you keep paying your bill. Of course they may try something funny to force you to switch but don't pay any mind to it.

If you like your phone the way it is you don't have to switch to a verizon plan. Their plans suck balls anyway and their EVDO plan is complete and udder B.S.! They are worse than Wildblue with their FAP. 5gb/month is bullshit no matter where you live. Unacceptable.

So if I sign up today with Alltel for the unlimtied mobile broadband card, it will be unlimited when my account goes under Verizon?

(I'm currently with Millenicom unlimited but I can get an Alltel discount through work. Would be nice to save a couple dollars/month. I would hate to have a 5gb cap placed when Verizon takes over since we average 8gb-10gb/month and would hate the big $$$ overages.)

What I fear is cancelling my unlimited Millenicom and getting Alltel. Then getting capped by Verizon and not being ablet to get back in with unlimited Millenicom.

Get the Alltel contract in print and read it FIRST. Make sure there is no mention to any sort of cap. I did this when I signed with Alltel last year and was assured that if it isn't in the contract it does NOT exist. That contract is your BFF and guarantees you unlimited use.

Alltel also gives you a trial period to make sure it works. It's handy; I started with the Starcom aircard and took it back for the Huawei EC228, which got a stronger signal.

I have a family of four, including two teens, and Alltel has been the only choice other than satellite. We use between 20-30G a month, which is pretty reasonable I think. The lack of satellite-style latency is worth every penny. We took it with us to Florida in February and it was WONDERFUL!! We could look up directions, check out restaurants, etc. with our laptops while on the road. It also kept our teenage daughter very happy.

Good luck. Just make sure you're satisfied with Alltel before the trial period ends and before you cancel Millenicom.

Based on what I can see, Alltel is still showing as unlimited.

I just want to be 100% sure that will remain when Verizon takes over.

20-30gb a month? Dang I thought I did a lot on mine but you guys sure use the crap out of it. I believe some DSL and cable packages run a limit of that much and they are usually twice as fast and reliable...

I have to watch non-stop youtube movies to reach that.. You should be safe under the unlimited umbrella if shell here hasn't been given any warnings.

Like I said, there are *four* of us. Cable or DSL would be the better option but if it doesn't reach us, it doesn't reach us. This is also a summer usage rate -- it goes way down in the fall.

In Eau Claire, WI one of the big AllTel stores is now a Verizon shop. They are remodeling, packing people into a tiny service area, and signing people up on Verizon plans only. They have Verizon service guides and so forth with totally different phone offerings.

The AllTel UM175 USB cell modem is gone, replaced with the Verizon USB760 and Verizon AD3700. I asked about getting the AllTel plan and was told that they aren't supposed to be giving out those plans anymore. And this is just two weeks since I first asked about the end of AllTel.

However, if I go on AllTel's website, I can still set up for an AllTel wireless internet plan with the UM175.

Looks like the window to get AllTel plans is closing fast.

Re: [General] Is there an Alltel or Verizon insider who knows wh

I have been unable to get the Huawei EC168 card to work with the only router that Alltel supports, the Cyfre. the card works great plugged directly into any of my computers, but won't work through the router.

Over the course of a couple weeks, I spent hours on the phone with Alltel and Cyfre support trying to get the router to connect, to no avail. Cyfre said it's an Alltel problem and Alltel said it's a Cyfre problem. Alltel sent me another router and the UM175 data card just in case either was defective. I also updated the Huawei EC168 PRL to the latest one from Verizon.

The conclusion to the issue was the data card kept trying to redial because of an issue with the Alltel network (brought on by switching off the Sprint towers and onto Verizon towers, I think they said) and I got permission to return the Cyfre router.

So... I called Verizon to see if I could switch over to their service but retain the unlimited download plan. Evidently, Verizon did not buy all the Alltel accounts. My number is one that is excluded from the merger, which means it may be bought out by someone else in the future.

I'm sort of in limbo and I am now looking for a 3g router that will be guaranteed to work in my area. After some research, I know which ones should work, but with my general service/support issues, I want to a guarantee. Any ideas who might sell me one with a 100% money back guarantee if it doesn't work?

Cradlepoint 3G routers are an excellent choice. I have had nothing but success with them.

eew09g is right, the Cradlepoint units do a great job, and the basic unit is now available for less the $100! See at: '»www.wirelessnwifi.com/Cradlepoint-CTR350'

It literally will plug and play with the EC168.
