I have a Corning NID. I want to put an ADSL splitter in the NID box on the customer side. Where can I get a splitter? What one should I buy? Thank you |

I don't know if one of these will fit your box. |

| If that photo is your nid the filter you want looks like the one on the left the same filter that StillLearn linked
The filter may include a adapter that makes the filter "fit" the nid on the left in my post. In the photo you posted there is only one inside wire cable you should not use both wire pairs in that cable. You should look for a splice point inside the house and fit a filter there |

I have two lines in the house. The bottom phone jack in the picture is the line with the adsl and a phone line. The wires are yellow and black.
I was going to run two wires from the interface phone jack in the NID to to the splitter input. Then attach the yellow and black wires to the phone output on the splitter (if it exists?) Then run a cat 5 cable to the the splitter to the adsl. Will that work?
Does the splitter have an input, a phone output and a adsl output?
Thank you |

With the splitter image I posted The input is the red and green wires The phone outputs are the red and green binding posts There is no adsl output, the phone and dsl signals are present at the red and green binding posts of the test jack module |

| The problem I have is intermittent static on the phone line with the adsl. The adsl will also drop many times when the static is present. I can clear the static (for a while) by pulling the plug out of the test jack at the nid or pulling out the line at my phone jack (that line has the filter which splits to the adsl and the phone).
ATT has not been able to find a problem. The NID was replaced a couple of years ago. I have also tried a new modem (motorola 2210), filters and got a new 6.0 phone. This line is only on one jack and has the phone/dsl.
My plan is to try the splitter at the NID with the Cat 5 cable to the dsl. The Cat 5 cable is going to be tricky to wire because I have a finished basement ceiling with some limited access. I am assuming the problem is my home phone wiring which is 20 years old.
IF THAT DOES NOT WORK, I AM SWITCHING TO THE DREADED TIME WARNER CABLE FOR THE HIGH SPEED INTERNET AND PHONE.
Any other ideas? Thanks for all your help. |

| Intermittent problems are hard to troubleshoot I doubt the filter+homerun will solve the problem Are you certain the problem is the inside wire?
If its possible I would connect the modem directly to the nid test jack and let it run as long as possible, if the modem has a log and it can be set so that the log is not erased when powered down the log will tell you what to do
Doing that will show if working on the inside wire is worth the time and expense |

| Its almost like the system is building up a charge which can be cleared by pulling the jack at the NID or in the house.
If you don't think changing the wiring will help with a home run, I guess my best bet may be to switch to Time Warner Cable. |

| reply to zotman If you have static take a wierd phone to the nid and plug into the test jack and make a few calls.Call your cell and mute it and listen for 5 minutes,if you hear static the problem is outside. If no static heard but when you reconnect the test jack and go inside you hear static then you have inside issue's |

Thank you for the info. I decided to install the splitter.
Picked up a Item:KEPTEL LPF200 ADSL POTS SPLITTER for $7 on ebay and it fit perfectly in my NID. Cat5 cable (100ft) was $11 on ebay.
It took some time to wire through my basement ceiling.
So far its working great. If I have any more problems, I believe it will be from ATT equipment. I now have the home run, new modem and new phone |
