A few days ago the MagicJack CEO, Dan Borislow (Shown above at his party at CES. Seriously. It was just like that.) was talking about his femtocell and was all like:

I’m sure you’ve heard of netTALK, the new magicJack rival. Any opinions on the device?
It’s a piece of sh*t. It has static. The call quality is pathetic. There’s no phone numbers available, and it’s run by a bunch of fly-by-nights with no assets. They’ll be bankrupt soon. We’re a real company with the best network and best software.

BAM! TWO HITS! I HIT YOU, YOU HIT THE GROUND.

So anyway, netTALK is now all like:

We, at netTALK, would like to respond to the comments made about our company and our product, the TK6000, as of late. Contrary to comments made, our company is founded and run by a staff of seasoned executives with decades of experience who firmly attests to and stands behind the high quality of netTALK’s policies, customer service practices, network and product development activities. Unlike others on the market, the TK6000 works independent of a computer, offering more convenience, flexibility and functionality to the end user – not to mention cost and energy savings. Because the TK6000 is flexible enough to not require the use of a fully powered computer to make and receive calls like other units, our customers are able to save time, energy and money. We developed the TK6000 by reviewing the current leading products in the category and focusing on the best attributes from each, resulting in a product we, and our loyal customers, feel is a best-of-all-worlds communication device.

BOOM! BACK ATCHA!

Anyway, MagicJack is good for folks who don’t know how to use Skype and, presumably, netTALK is the same stuff. Both are good for your grandma who doesn’t know VoIP from Vincent Price. But it’s nice to see that netTALK took the high road.
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

prestonlewis : Beware u, I don't think you're being completely fair.

netTALK was a product offered by Interlink Global (established 1987) back around 2005. It was mainly a video/voip offering. Interlink was a big pay by the minute operation and serviced a number of South American nations as well as the US. The netTALK video/voip service was never that popular and was just a small part of Interlink's business.

Then, Interlink went bankrupt and the majority of their assets were purchased by a NC based advertising company which wanted the netTALK dongle. The NC advertising company eventually took the name netTALK, exited the advertising business, and now operates as netTALK. The NC advertiser kept the majority of netTALK's employees and management.

Some might think the Interlink bankrupty was due to mismangement by Kyriakides and I haven't fully explored the reasons for Interlinks bankrupty but one reason that others have put forth is the socialist tendencies of Venzuela, Peru and other South American nations where Interlink Global operated.

So the "team" of nettalk has been around in the phone industry for a while, the nettalk product has been around for about 6 years, and the name wasn't borrowed from a European company.

As for the stocks and financial situation, I'm not sure how much of the money/stock came from the NC advertiser that purchased the Interlink assets and how much was sold recently.

I don't think you've done your homework with your assertions.
Additionally, Kyriakides, who ran the old Interlink and the current netTALK has had his hand in many business such as Regency Cruise Lines and can be considered as a "startup tycoon". Now, any businessman is likely to have his dark side and his shady dealings, but Kyriakides doesn't have a history of wrecking his startups or of stealing and enriching himself from the various enterprises he has operated.

So again, I think your post is very superficial and is lacking many of the overall details.

If you want to build a case against Kyriakides and other netTALK managers, you should begin by invetigating Interlink Global's SEC filings. Interlink wrapped up operations and filings in April, 2009, so there is a lot of paper trail you can explore. I haven't seen anything concerning Interlink Global that concerns me. Additionally, if you look at netTALK's various stock papertrails, Kyriakides and a few others control the vast majority of netTALK's stock. It doesn't appear like they are selling stock to get rich, they're buying their own stock.

anon : I have used my newly purchased TK6000 for continuously 3 days. I plugged to my second router (modem - router/voip adapter - router - TK6000). I didn't configure anything as I don't know how. It's working fine. unlike my another voip phone (paying monthly fee) which is connected to the modem directly, I can hear a little bit of background noise if listening carefully. The voice got garbled for one or two seconds for every 5 or 10 minutes, but not for every call. Overall the sound quality is acceptable if it's not crystal clear. I just hope, they would have a manual for coaching an average person like to understand and set up this device conveniently.

By the way, the sound quality of the international call seems even better than the domestic call.

I had problems setting it up at work, but when I brought it home and plugged it into my home router, it worked perfectly. The sound quality was perfect. I think even better than magic jack simply because the tk6000 was not plugged into my computer so it was not competing for resources. Before now I was using the magic jack for about a year. I decided that I had to try the tk6000 because I had gotten pretty annoyed with MJ's interface popping up. Even with the program "magichide" there would still be a pop up caller id tab. This was unnecessary because my phone has caller id, and this caller id tab would pop up on top and kick whatever I was doing to the back. I think the tk6000 definitively resolved that problem. Though I highly recommend it, the tk6000 has two flaws that I didn't like. First, the initial setup (both the website login and the unit) needed more explaining. The website login is only required for inputting your address, but there are multiple tabs on the site that do not have explanations and do not pertain to the average user like myself. They are just unnecessary and confusing. Then there is the setup of the unit. It's suppose to be just plug n play. It didn't workout that way on my router at work. The problem is that once you've encountered a problem, there isn't a built in configuration emulator to try to trouble shoot your problem. Tech support was available by phone but was unable to fix the problem. My problem was then passed along to another part of tech support who took 3 days to reply. This other tech support then gave me three things to try, one of which was to try to connect it to a router on a different network, which seemed to work great. Now the second flaw that I didn't like too much about my new tk6000. The number assigned to my unit is in another city. Not a big deal, but requires a little explaining when I give this phone number out to friends and family. Overall I really like the tk6000, sound quality is great, call logs are online and can be printed. Most importantly, there are no annoying pop ups

Ron R : Hey guys, I found this topic in a Google search and thought I might answer a few of your questions:

1. netTALK has nothing to do with magicJack. Nothing at all. The company may be from the same geographic location, but the similarities end there - magicJack is a reseller of another VOIP carrier, netTALK owns 100% of its own equipment and is a true CLEC.

2. The company itself was incorporated a few years ago and is about to be a public company - it's being accomplished through a reverse merger (that's the Discover Screens connection). The product has been in development for some time.

3. The TK6000 is a true SIP device, so the service is more like Vonage than magicJack. magicJack is simply a cheap audio device that works with a soft phone. With netTALK there is NO SOFTWARE to install on your PC - you just plug it into your Ethernet port and start dialing. You can use it through the USB port like magicJack if you don't have a spare ethernet port, but there is still no software to install, it detects as a network device, bridges the connection to your existing network card, and gets to the Internet to make the calls through there.

4. The website is relatively new, an infomercial is being tested right now. I don't particularly care for the direct response model but whatever.

5. The $99 price is for the device, not the service - the local & long distance service for 3 years just happens to be included at no charge. Remember, this is a public company but if that doesn't quell any concerns of whether or not they'll be around or not just keep in mind that this is not proprietary software - it's a true SIP device that uses standard VOIP protocols, so it could technically be configured to work with pretty much any VOIP carrier.

Net Talk intends to be all things to all people which, according to Abraham Lincoln, is tough to do: You can fool all of the people...] Googling reveals a host of pending Net Talk applications to Telecommunications/Public Utility Commissions throughout the US.

So, if NT as a VoIP provider plans to supply DIDs from their self-owned CLEC pool, one would expect a wider range of choices of rate centers ... but a search of my favored site for DID research, »www.localcallingguide.com/, shows that NW (the CLEC) currently only has a single 10,000 number block rate center (North Dade FL) ... 786-289-0000 thru 786-289-9999.

This is discerned from LocalCallingGuide's main page by clicking on "telco", typing "Net Talk" into the Company Name box, and hitting ENTER. Sure enough, only one Rate Center.

To confirm accuracy, try entering "YMAX" as the telco ... and three pages of YMAX OCNs appear!

Now, to be fair, many start-up providers have opened their doors with a limited number of rate centers: Future-Nine, Voxoxoxoxoxox, SipGate ... to name the ones I can think of at the moment. F9 initially offered only an Ohio rate center (IIRC) ... but, true to its promise, DID availability was rapidly expanded in short order.

The lack of response to those legitimate questions posed by prior posters is certainly problematic. It suggests either that Net Talk has been premature in beginning marketing efforts -- or -- Net Talk is just another fly by night operation such as the now defunct provider that operated out of UPS store in Boca Raton FL.

I know that RockyBB is distrusting of any company based in Las Vegas NV ... but I'm starting to feel that way about SouthEast FL offerings.
