Verizon should convert all the payphones in the subway to loop powered cellular base stations.
Whats funny is, Boingo roams on ATT hotspots. So Verizon customers now have ATT Wifi, ATT DSL style.

I recall connecting to some of them from a few blocks away (straight shot of course). Right around the time they stopped using them they also changed the public phone booths a little, so I hoped to find one (AP) for sale. Unfortunately none ever popped up on Craigslist, so I never got my souvenir.
