·Sprint Mobile Br..
| $483M = 0% increased coverage area? Most of half a Billion Dollars and they don't increase their footprint at all. What an(other) odd choice. Well, I have to hand it to Sprint, they do have interesting taste in acquisitions.
I've been shilling for Sprint, since I signed on 8 months ago. They cut our corporate bill in half and (for us) the coverage has been superior than the Cingular-AT&T-Verizon we had been using previously. They've been more feature & device cost-friendly (excepting forwarding charges) than the above as well.
The billing is understandable and we've avoided the customer service nightmares that I've read about on the web (although our service is through a 3rd party who handles about half of that customer service).
Their presence puts pressure on Verizon's 'Walled Garden' approach to content. And their devices and service are (again - for us) superior to AT&T's pretty good offerings. Of course EVDO can't compete with HSxPA in throughput; but there's something to be said for having mobile broadband available in every spot I frequent.
I'd like to see them expand their territory. This isn't going to do it. If they follow Wizeguy 's approach to offering reasonably priced prepaid broadband (even if tied to promotion partners), they'd pick up a lot of users who are frustrated with contract slavery.

 | Its a risky move, prepaid customers are notorious for churn, which is the bane of the wireless world. What this acquisition says to me is that Hesse and Sprint believe the economy is going to be in the tank for a while, and that price, not necessarily new features, is going to be the growth driver for quite a while. Judging by the success they've had selling the Boost unlimited plan, he may be right. -- "Don't steal. The government hates competition." Beyond AM. Beyond FM. XM |

| It's all a matter of time until Sprint-Nextel annouce the buy out of Leap/Cricket or even MetroPCS or in Ohio- Revol.
It's also a matter of time before they do the flat rate option all together, just like Boost.
Hesse has a business plan in store for Sprint and we're only starting to see the start of it.
Next step for Sprint-Nextel- total flate rate? no contracts? Maybe. It sure would give ATT and VZ a run for their money. |
