 | Makes Me Glad I am not an iPhone Customer It works fine on the Blackberry as well. Google Voice offers people a virtual second line and that functionality is not duplicating anything on the iPhone. I'm giving the number out as my cell phone to clients, but have the piece of mind to know that when I go on vacation in two weeks, I can send those calls to voicemail. Three years ago, I had a client call me at 2am (as the bars were closing) with all the brilliant ideas he accumulated while drinking the night away. Google Voice gives me the luxury to send those calls to voice mail, to block this guy, etc. That is not functionality that ATT or anyone has. I can now now text with clients without giving away my real number.
My wife works for a F500 and has a company provided cell phone. As soon as GVoice has number portability, we are going to port her personal cell phone to GVoice and relay it to her company phone. If she ever leaves the company, she can reestablish service in her old number or simply redirect GVoice to that number. Tell me what iPhone or ATT service this overlaps? Oh, I know, it is the data consumption that these text messages cause. That's the ticket. Must be the data consumption. If 1,000,000 people or GVoice texting at the same time, ATT might loose a meg of valuable data that could be used for something else.
Perhaps Google should release this App as a jailbroken App, it might be the "must have" application that will drive people to jailbreaking their phones. |
