Strange Behavior: Gizmo -> iAN-02Ex

I have a problem calling my ATA (UTStarcom iAN-02Ex) when the call is coming through Gizmo5. The ATA registers to G5, the called phone rings, but upon picking up, it immediately disconnects while the calling phone thinks it is still connected.

Normally I would think this is a LAN problem, but I tried it while completely bypassing my router, and I got the same result. Also, the logs indicate that the called phone is getting a "BYE" upon picking up. Sometimes it looks like the called phone is sending a "BUSY," but that is less clear.

I don't have a G5 DID, but I tried it using an IPKall DID and also a GoogleVoice DID, and got the same results. Moreover, I tried it while the called phone was registered to pbxes, and got the same results when using my Gizmo trunk. When I switched to my CallCentric trunk, the call and the audio were fine. When I called G5 -> X-Lite, the call was also fine. Outbound calls using the ATA on G5 are fine as well.

So the problem seems to be limited to this particular ATA when it is receiving calls that use Gizmo, even when the ATA is not registered to Gizmo. There must be some incompatibility in the SIP processing between this device and the G5 network.

Can anyone suggest a setting that might be causing this? Unfortunately, the iAN-02Ex is pretty old and doesn't have as many controls as newer, better ATAs. But I have gotten it to work just fine with every other provider I have tried. This one has me stumped.

Here is an additional piece of information:

If I set up G5 to forward calls directly to my ATA, they are answered correctly and audio is fine. So why is it that forwarded calls work, but direct calls to the same registered, connected ATA do not.

Aren't there any SIP gurus out there who can venture a guess as to why this is happening?
