| | [Speed] is the bandwidth cap applicable on 50/10 plan
Hi All
I am moving to a new house where comcast offers v. high speed net for about $ 139.95 where the speed is supposed to be 50/10. Right now, I have a bundle package for $ 99 where the speed is 12/1. As we all know that there is bandwidth consumption limit for each month is 250 GB. Now, my query is - does that same cap is applicable for the new package mentioned above ? If yes, what is the wisdom in offering such high speeds ? Does not make any sense ?

Your info is a little outdated. 50/10 has dropped from 139.95 to 99.95. I'd think they're planning to put a 100/15 or so package in where you pay 139.95.
Don't quote me on that last bit, though. Until 100 meg debuts, I don't really know how fast or expensive it'll be.
As for bandwidth, the 250GB cap applies to all speeds, even 50/10. So if you go for that speed, keep in mind you have 250GB before they say something or cut you off.
I've been doing a lot of video this month and have yet to reach 200. I'm sitting a 170GB so far.
As for why they offer high speeds, I look at it like this. You want what you want right now, as little waiting as possible.
It's a speed vs volume thing. But I won't get into that. It's been done to death in the Bandwidth topic stickied here: »The Bandwidth Limits/Congestion Management Topic
Hope that helps. | |

Even though if I recall correctly, I thought Comcast said a few years back they were trying to debut 100Mb at the end of 2008...

I'd say it'll appear at the tail end of 2009 into 2010 when upload bonding starts to be rolled out. As for when 100 megs will debut, the only place I know they're testing it is at the Comcast center in that Sony store that's in the building.
Jealous yet? *drools*

| | It's all about streaming video. The average user has a few periods each month of intensive use. As the economy improves, Comcast is going to be upgrading their speed capability as quickly as possible.
