| Breaking News.. WLS-TV petitions FCC to change channels
Breaking news: WLS has petitioned to change channels, presumably giving up channel 7 for another channel. The FCC database does not yet reflect which channel -- Looking for Updated Hi-Def News? Check out the most popular site at http;//hdtvtechno.worldispnetwork.com |

1 edit | Some background on what WLS had been looking at as an option...
WLS, ABC 7 Chicago had applied to the FCC for a translator on channel 32, with an ERP of 15kW, broadcasting from the Sears Tower.
Here's a link to the FCC application, dated June 30th, 2009...

Looks like all bets are off on the translator application, at the moment.

| reply to Bink63 It looks like Channel 44 is what WLS is requesting the move to.

What an improvement that will be, in terms of reception!!!
My sources also indicate that their request for the Channel 32 translator will be cancelled.
Links when they become available.
Now, if WBBM would only get off VHF-HI...

Fingers crossed!! |

| reply to hdtvtechno22 Not sure how accurate this is but this was posted at avsforum:
WWAZ's channel change was approved today, and at the same time, the FCC issued a Notice of Proposed Rule Making for WLS and channel 44. In fact, the FCC cited WLS's channel change request as one of the reasons they approved WWAZ.
So now there's a comment period, and if there are no opposing comments (I doubt there will be), it could be approved within two months (or less, if the FCC's feeling really speedy).

| Gov't Speedy? I'm cryin from the laughter. Well see WLS on 44 by this time next year if we're lucky. I don't receive WLS OTA now but I do get it from Dish. It doesn't really matter to me as there isn't one thing on ABC that I watch or care to watch. Interestingly same goes for NBC and CBS but I sure love my WGN for sports and WTTW for Nova and some of the other educational shows. -- In need of a Vegas vacation.

| Not exactly, but it's clearly in their best interest to do it as soon as possible. »www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre···17185741
The most interesting part is that they've applied to operate at full power on both 7 and 44. I can't see the FCC approving that. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |

| It will show up as 7, even though it is technically 44. You'll need to rescan to pick it up.
The problem they were having the last couple of days was that there was still a low-power station operating on 44. They should be gone now and signals should have improved. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |

| reply to hdtvtechno22 Is WLS on 44 now? I just scanned the digital channels and have got two sets of Ch 7 stations now: 7.1, 7.1, 7.2, 7.2, 7.3, 7.3.......? Is one set on the old VHS band, or what? Or is my tuner screwed up? I guess I can just delete the extras. -- What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? |

Depending on what Digital Convertor Box or TV you have, you may be able to delete the lower powered RF Channel from your mapping.
