1 edit | yes well I have a hard time feeling sorry for a FIBER isp that can't compete.
They have an ENORMOUS technical advantage. They could literally offer uncapped speeds 5 times as high. |

I do like it when people assume fiber can offer uber speeds. They flip the script and it becomes $250 a month for 9.95 GB of traffic. Once that pesky competition is gone and all. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

| reply to DataRiker Enormous advantage? You're clearly not from Canada It is near impossible to get any sort of network infrastructure up. I'm 100% certain they are VERY much in debt in order to get this fibre up and I applaud them.
We are in a true monopoly situation on all major infrastructure. In every province, there is ONE carrier owning all of the phone lines and ONE carrier owning all the of cable lines. (some provinces are split, but only one provider serves a certain area. No overlap)
Municipalities are also not very happy with the idea of 'little guys' coming in to dig up and put in their own lines, protecting this monopoly even more.
The fact that this company is alive and well and has 9000 subscribers is amazing. I hope they live through this and end up winning one for the consumers (i.e. CHOICE)
Every internet provider has massive profit margins here. These guys are priced the same, but the difference is that their margins are mostly going to debt payments, I would guess. One can only hope that prices come down once they're in the "plus". |

 | So, if they are so terrible , and allegedly with no backbone capacity (some how again I'm afraid this is there own fault), how is this a problem? |

| reply to recneps WTF!
They're not building this out in the city. The service is only in the buildings owned by Terry.
So yes they do have an advantage they own the network and can lay down any cable they want on THEIR property. It's not like their digging up YOUR lawn.
9000 customers LIVE in their buildings. IT"S NOT VERY MUCH! |
|
 | This is not true. Novus also services buildings not owned by Terry(aka Concord Pacific). As an example, you won't find my building(Tandem in Burnaby) listed anywhere in Concord's developments, yet we are serviced by Novus. They initially had to get permission from our Strata council. |
|
 | so they also sign deals with others. Still they're not building out to regular homes. STILL only MDUs/HOAs |
