HA! Yeah right! Chest thumping by CV over speed tiers is a waste of time. These are limits, people. Who has the capacity to support these limits reliably? Certainly not cable. As they raise the speeds of lower tiers at similar price points, cable customers won't be getting what they pay for. I saw this same problem 5 years ago with 8/1 cable service. Along came the triple play package and many new subs. Next thing you know, I couldn't even hit 1Mbps download in the evenings or on weekends. The same issue will scale to a 100Mbps package on cable regardless of DOCSIS 3. IMO, I'd rather pay more for 50 down all the time than less for 100 down sometimes. | |

I've said time and time again that FiOS only beats cable because they designed something from the ground up and are not bogged down by analog channels and legacy customers. | |

I would say that Docsis 3.0 is fine for 100Mbps downloads, but once you start going above that FIOS is much better positioned.

| | | Your issue stems from underprovisioning on the part of your provider. It has absolutely nothing to do with people being given higher speeds. Your ISP is either being insanely cheap or unaware of the congestion at your node. I suggest you call them up and tell them what's going on. If the service rep refuses to help, demand to talk to his manager. | |
