 [FL] COX HSI Only, NO Cable TV

I ordered cable internet only, with no cable TV service. From what I understand, the cable line will transmit all of the frequencies that serve the standard analog video/audio for cable TV unless a trap is installed.

If the company installs a trap, it would have to allow a frequency range to be open for the cable modem to operate. Where I currently have service, (Comcast), it operates at 597 Mhz. If COX operates at that frequency for it's cable modem CTMS systems, then would anything that operates above that frequency, (channels 87+ analog) be transmitted as well?

I've heard that even with the trap, people are able to receive the local broadcast stations in DTV format.

I'm not trying to steal service or anything, but I'm just curious about the science behind the technology and applying this theory to a real world application, because in theory, if the filter blocks the frequencies lower than the cable modem operation, it would suggest that the other frequencies would still be unfiltered.

Thanks,

@cox.net

I have internet only and they put a trap on my line it kill all the analog stuff and left the HD channels behind I told a cox tech he said they do not have a trap that will filter out the HD channels. He said analog signals are easier to block than digital signals. He said if you start blocking out digital spectram it will start to kill the modem connection.

It really depends on the local system, what filters they have available, and what the tech actually installs.

A "modem only" filter is just a "band pass" filter that only allows the downstream and upstream channels needed for the modem. It is certainly possible and common to get:

As are all sorts of other filters:
