Taurus SHO turns 21, grows up.

Slick look car. The specs look nice. And even BMW loving Motor Trend likes it. AWD twin turbo V6 making 365hp and 350ftlb. 0-60 in 5.2, 1/4 mile in 13.1, and 0.87g on the skid pad. Not bad for a chubby 4361lb family hauler.

quote:
Bottom line: This adults-only SHO is bigger, comfier, and more laid back, yet better performing in every way than those sexier, rowdier 20th-century SHOs. The $37,995 base price -- just $200 more than the last one, accounting for inflation -- seems reasonable. And if you need to channel your inner wild-child, just grab your honey, crank up Nirvana on the 12-speaker Sony system, park somewhere remote, and adjourn to the queen-size rear bench.

Just priced one MSRP was $42k. Might replace the wife's Edge with this. She misses the HP she had with her Grand Prix GXP.

I thought those V8s were disappointingly slow.

Sound good though.

I would prefer a V6 SHO - twin turbos and direct injection? - that is some serious insanity.

I have a four banger in the garage that hits 120 by the time he hits 60. Course it has two less wheels and thousands of pounds less weight.

What's interesting to note is the engine in this new SHO can make a ton more torque than the 350 it is listed at. Ford had to electronically limit it to save the drive train. Which makes it a unique machine, in that it has it's peak 350ftlbs from 1500rpm all the way up to 5000rpm.

It's definatly an improvement for being an 'American' automobile.

That said, you can pickup the Genesis Sedan with the maximum available trim for 43 grand. Granted, it's not AWD. However, it handles just as good, has more horsepower/torque, and the interior is on par with much more expensive cars, and IMO it looks better.

Still, this new Taurus is impressive. I just think there are better options.

I never owned a Ford but I like this one. It's probably built better than the Yugos with the V8s coming over here from Korea.

You have an example of that?

Yes, i'd like to see an example of this 'Korean Yugo' as well. I hope he isn't referring to the 2009 NA Car of the year.

Don't forget the "with the V8s" part.

Ah yes, you mean the 4.6l Tau V8 that was on the Ward's 10 best engines list for 2009?

I'd like to see that in a Yugo sized body and RWD or AWD.

I want the Supercharged 5.5 liter with 4 Valves per Cylinder.

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Tau_engine

quote:
The Tau is Hyundai Motor Company's newest V8 engine, replacing the Omega. It is reported to deliver an estimated 375 horsepower (280 kW) and 333 ft·lbf (451 N·m) of torque -- on premium unleaded fuel -- at 4.6 L (~281 cu in). The engine can adapt to run on regular fuel without damage, although with slightly lower performance.

News reports also suggest the engine might be produced in 5.0 L (~305 cu in) and 5.5 L (~336 cu in), with superchargers added to the latter engine. It will have 4 valves per cylinder with CVVT.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if Hyundai releases a super-car in the next few years using that 5.5l twin-turboed or the likes. Hyundai has been developing and moving up in the auto-industry at lightspeed these past few years.

I said there are better options. There is a substantial difference between saying there are better options and calling it a Yugo. Do I really need to explain that? Pretty simple concept i'm conveying here.

I love it.

At this rate, I'd love to make that top of the line Taurus with AWD my next car.
