2 edits | reply to US_1st_Cav We have to write a couple page essay on each field trip, using our notes, so we better be paying attention lol!!Serious business haha!I found taking pics helps me greatly in reviewing the field trip.My table partner was telling me he is struggling to write a single page!No problem for me, because as they say, a pic is worth literally 1000 words lol!My teacher is cool, and he gives me extra credit for taking the pics, and in turn, I'm letting him use my pictures in his powerpoint presentations. But he makes me describe what it is in the picture for the extra credit, so I have to work for it.
Last class for Physical Geology tomorrow, and I have to take a final test!Thursday I have last day for History, and Math, and i'm done for the semester, and finals for those classes too!Start again on the 24th.Ohh I can't wait for meteorology class! -- 1st Cavalry 2/5 Fort Hood TX. |

Picture are always a good memory jog. They don't call photographic memory "photographic" for nothing. Do good on the rest of the tests and class work. You took the picture with the camera looking straight up? -- My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it. 2 edits | reply to US_1st_Cav Yup, I took the picture look straight up, and the print is like on an overhang. It's kind of a tricky question that I'm not 100% how to ask.But what I'm asking is, from what creatures point-of-view is the dinosaur track impression that you see, viewed from i.e. birds eye view? The track is in the original horizontal postion, and hasn't been affected by uplift.2nd is, what is the layer of the dinosaur print in?What did it stepped into, and then what did it become now?3rd, what is the actual foot-print material? This might be a little tricky to answer. | ok, i'll take a stab, but it's kinda hard to tell from this perspective.
First of all, the footprint appears to be from Trex (it has the characteristics at least)
Also it looks like the underside of the footprint (meaning that it looks like it's raised and not a depression like you normally see)
As for the rock that the prints are in, well i cant give you the exact nomenclature because it too difficult to tell from the pix, but it is some sort of sedimentary rock (sandstone perhaps). Looking at it closely im guessing sandstone. That is definitely sandstone in the foreground though. -- My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it. 2 edits | reply to US_1st_Cav Okay, so what I was talking about pov, I was saying we are looking the underneath part of the track, or from a worms perspective, but you are correct, it is the underneath portion of the track. Next the dinosaur obviously stepped in mud, which is the black shale layer we see the print penetrated into, but now is no longer present.Last you are correct, the actual print is sandstone. The footprint dried up, and then was filled in with layers of sand overtime, and thus preserving the footprint from erosion and stuff.I hope that's the correct answer.Wasn't really paying attention to my teach lol, since I was busy taking pics.Oh an I don't know what dinosaur made the track unfortunatly. -- 1st Cavalry 2/5 Fort Hood TX. |

| reply to US_1st_Cav Thought that track was from an apatosaurus type critter. Would you believe that 30 yrs ago there was nothing there but a sign saying Morrison formation? We used to hike all around the hogback and had no idea this was there. My daughter did her geology paper on this area. She also took her own pictures. BTW - if you enjoyed the geology, there's a trackway in Picketwire Canyon out east. Our Geology class went there. Nice long hike, too. Also check on Rabbit Valley if you head west on i-70. We hit it once when they were digging. Working on an Apatosaurus. Good job on your grade. Weezy |
