Cash for Clunkers - Closed

The NTSB closed the program Thursday night after running out of the $1 billion program giving $3,500 or $4,500 a trade-in for gas guzzlers.

Congress might add another $2 billion to it.

Environmentalists actually are critics since you only have to get 2 mpg more than the 18 mpg clunker you turn in.

Cash for Clunkers is just one of the many rathole ideas this administration, and i'm sad to say, many Republicans are supporting. I'm all for providing temporary assistance to automakers that will be paid back in full, but giving away cash so people will buy cars is money down the drain that we're all going to have to pay.

This program really is a big joke. Huge tax benefits were given to people back in 2001 and 2002 to buy SUVs...Now we are giving them more to get rid of them. If anyone thinks this is a program for us people, you are wrong...it is only meant to benefit the car companies. Waaaayyy to many good-great cars are being destroyed for this idiot idea. Search You Tube for cash for clunker engine disabling and you will see a few examples.

This is just going to hurt the poor. The Democrats trick the poor into voting for them and this is what they get.

First off the 4 billion they are spending on this is only going to be printed money, thus inflate the money supply. Inflation is the cruelest tax on the poor.

Second off, this is going to remove vehicles from the market place that poor people could afford to purchase.

Republicans are the ones that trick the poor into voting for them. Look at how many stupid poor people voted for Bush, twice.

The republicans love to promise great things, along with shrinking government, and cutting taxes. Then what happens is they spend like drunken sailors with no plans on how to pay for anything, expand government, and then raise taxes.
At least democrats do not lie about spending money and actually try to create plans to pay for the spending.
Before Bush, Clinton actually tried to balance the budget.

Both parties do not really seem to care much about the national debt, but at least democrats are not running on complete lies like republicans do to pander for votes.

I see your point. The Government has plenty of cash on hand and this extra spending will never have to be repaid. Also you are spot on that getting cars off of the market will help lower the price of the remaining cars.
