It's implied that we're ethically bound to obey our country's laws; so our laws define our ethics.

I don't believe that our founding fathers intended to have Corporate Lawyers dictating what Right and Wrong would be for American Citizens. It's also an issue because it places corporations equal to God in influencing our ethos.

Is this a path we would have chosen for ourselves 200 years ago?

as for copyright law, a big issue is that it was never intended for copyrights to be owned by corporations. the original idea of copyright was to protect authors and composers. conglomerates should never have been allowed to own them.
