| Livery Cabs
Are livery cabs in NYC allowed to have out of state plates?
I have seen a lot of Jersey and CT plates on livery cabs lately and I am just curious if it's legal or not, because my mom the other day didn't want to get in one because it had Jersey plates fearing that it was an illegal car with no insurance.

I can shead some light on this for you.
If the cab displays a Orange or White diamond in the front window with the TLC logo then your good to go.
Also if they display a little purple/white circle in the passenger window then your good as well.
This means the vehicle is in compliance with the NYC TLC and can operate here.
There is a company in the bronx that has NJ plates but is affiliated with the NYC TLC and they have no problems.

| So NJ plates are ok as long as it has a purple white circle in the passenger window.
Got ya.
My mom was in an accident a few years ago with a livery cab that had NJ TLC plates and the dude was uninsured for NY so she's afraid to get in them and they seem to be popping up everywhere now.

Well the driver needs to hold the proper insurance coverage in order to get the TLC's sticker so yeah.
They even go one step to personally inspect the vehicles in queens.

If you or your mom are concerned I would be very careful. I see plenty of those TLC stickers scotch taped to the windows making them easily transferable.

| Yeah that's also kind of why she looks for the plates and only calls the taxi company she doesn't like to wave any down. But the other night she needed a cab and and the companies she called were busy and she let countless Jearsy and CT cars go by.
