 Im in biloxi, woolmarket. should i change to bellsouth dsl?

hey guys i cant even game on xbox live/360 and the video marketplace without it running like crap. got max speed etc. connect. before having to upgrade to "business package"
then throw in netflix streaming i'm at home a lot and i see the netflix your connection has slowed screen a lot.

anyone in my area or can say would i be way better off with att/bellsouth dsl? im seriously sick of this crap. it starts off decent but as we know the caps hit pretty quick. i can usually game online for 3-5 hours a stint. throw in video marketplace/game demos/netflix and you can easily see.

i have had every cable replaced/line. runs the same on any jack in the house starts fine then slopes down hill.

even the main cable line to the house has been replaced.... still exactly the same, CRAP!

anyone switched to dsl and got good results?

I also have my own two cableone spoof slogans you guys may like.

ok so the original is "watch us make you smile"

1: "watch us ripppp youu offfff"
2: "watch usss pissss youuu offfff"

haha sing it just like the original.

I apologize if I haven't properly understood your post, but are you saying you upgraded to the business package and your speeds still go to crap after a while?

I know with the residential packages you're stuck with either a 1 gb monthly cap, 3 gb daily cap, or a 5 gb daily cap (can be exceeded, but if done within 15 days of your billing period, your service may cease operation) with 2.2 gb / 3.6 gb threshold caps (Your speed is cut in half after reaching these caps) . The business packages have at least a 10.5 gb threshold cap before speeds are halved.

To clear up any errors in communication...

- What type of service do you have? (e.g., 1.5 mbit economy, 8 mbit residential pro, etc.)

- Try testing your speed on speakeasy.net/speedtest. Make sure no other devices are uploading/downloading data at that time. Make sure your downstream speed number is around the speed you're paying for.

- What kind of modem do you have? (Motorola Surfboard, arris... etc.)

- Are you behind a router? Try connecting your xbox directly to the cable modem trying to see whether or not Netflix lags there. (I actually have an old Netgear router that can't make it past 4 mbit)

As for switching to DSL, your service may be much better or even worse.

Cable relies on nodes which can be overloaded if too many people are downloading/uploading data (a shared connection). Storms can also knock out a cable node entirely for hours if the crew is tied up with repairs.

While DSL can survive a hurricane and extensive power outages thanks to generators at the CO, DSL relies on a single, dedicated line which is unshared but can be greatly affected by line distance and interference. AT&T DSL (For the time being in this area) is still uncapped whereas cableone has caps.

IMHO, I'd try a few more things before switching to DSL.

Nope I have the highest package you can get before having to purchase business account/speed. i guess it's the 8 or 10mb

i looked i have the home premium package 10mb...

modem = motorola surfboard sbs101

router = linksys wrt54gl

even hard wired straight from modem to xbox it happens games and my ping vs everyone else i play is crap. fluxtuates. i easlily go over the 2.gb a day on most days. throw in xbox gaming and voice chat.

playing fighting games with nonstop upload data. plus i can easily download that in marketplace and netflix streaming and movies on live.

with all that said. i think i'll try dsl and see. before i cancel my cable that way im out nothing either way. maybe i'll try another modem from them too. we'll see. i really just the it's caping left and right etc and just performing like crap.

either people are hogging the bandwith/node or as we know cableone just sucks in general.

I would say check your modem stats but you said the tech changed everything out.

In this case I guess you're within right to try out DSL. With what you do on Netflix, xbox live market place, etc. I'd try aiming for Extreme 6.0 if you can.

If you need help setting up your DSL, feel free to post here.

And like I said before, a user's experience can wildly vary over someone who lives in another town. I'm in Gautier and DSL service is horrible; paltry 1.2 mbit speeds that always fluctuate and go to crap when it storms, despite having nearly 10 technicians inspect the wiring inside and out.

With cableone? The tech was awesome, prompt, and quick at setting everything up. Instant 3 mbit speeds right away (When they still had the 3 mbit package); zero down time, I always got my speeds unless I hit the threshold cap. It never lagged either, but I live in a different city too.

Anyway, let us know if your experience with DSL is any better.

did you go to your cableone account and look at your bandwidth usage to see if you're hitting the cap and getting throttled? actually, your throttled speed should be my normal speed (i'm on 5mb plan) and so i don't see why you would ever have problems on xbox live.

i'm in gulfport and don't have any problems on xbox live. i play shooters and not fighting games though. maybe, the people you are fighting have the bad connection and yours is fine?

I also play on live all the time with 2 xbox360's. I never get throttled. Netflix will put a big dent into your bandwidth cap for the day. Especially the hd movies. But games on live will not put much of a dent. I would use the tools here at dslreports and run a line test and ping test. Maybe also a tweak test.
