| ActionTec Q1000 Xbox Live Problem
I recently just got qwest's fiber optic fast DSL and I have the ActionTec Q1000 router/modem. When I try to connect to Xbox Live on my Xbox360 it says that my modem does not have a correct MTU setting (above 1365?). When I login to my router to try and change the MTU setting I don't see the option anywhere. Just wondering if anyone could help me out! Please let me know if there is any more info you need. |

@qwest.net | reply to runfast1986 I am having the same problem with the Q1000. I turned off UPnP and it did not work. Qwest tells me to call Xbox live support while live support tells me to call Qwest. Any other suggestions? |

| I too have just received the new q1000 and 12mbps service. I have tried enabling and disabling upnp but can't get my xbox 360 to connect. It comes back with the same MTU error. Any help would be appreciated as it is great to have the speed, but not so great to lose xbox live functionality. |

| reply to Chrissssssss In addition to disabling the UPnP mode, you can also go to:
"Advanced Setup" ->
"Security" section (left column subcategory) ->
"Applications" ->
Select "XBOX 360" from the device list ->
Select "XBOX" from the "Application" drop down window ->
Click "Add" to add the new rule. Then click "Utilities", and reboot the modem. Attempt a new connection w/ the XBOX 360 and post back any errors that might pop up.
In addition, make sure your wireless settings are set to WPA, as XBOX and Actiontec do not play well when set to WEP.

| reply to runfast1986 I get it to get past the MTU kink once to give me the option to download the xbox live update. Then I get a network connection error before the download bar progresses any. When I go the retest the live network I get the same MTU error as before. I really don't get this |

@qwest.net | I had the same problem, hook your computer to your modem and make sure the local area connection and wireless are enabled. Sounds dumb but it worked and I was having the same problem. |

@qwest.net | reply to runfast1986 I modified the "Application" setting as suggested, but had to re-enable UPnP for Xbox Live to work. We're back in business now. Thanks guys! |

@qwest.net | I tried all of the above solutions to no prevail. While I was waiting on hold with Qwest, I decided to update the firmware of the Q1000 and now it's working for me. |

| reply to runfast1986 So far just updating the firmware fixes the MTU error with xbox live, but then I get an error that the modems NAT is set to moderate and should be changed to open or you may encounter network issues connecting to or hearing other players while on live... There are no options aside from enable/disable NAT in the modem settings. I'm able to connect and netflix is working fine but have not seen whether there will be problems with multiplayer games on live. |

@qwest.net | reply to HuXXX When I click to download the Firmware update, it says that it is an unkown file type and I want to save it or find something on the web to run it, what should I do? None of the other options have worked so far. |

@qwest.net | reply to runfast1986 you just have to save the file to your desktop. there will be a browse button on your router page, you just have to link the file to that and then you hit upgrade firmware |

| reply to runfast1986 I had issues with this junk box kicking my games offline. It wouldn't kick them right away but about every five to ten minutes. I spent three days with Qwest tech support and all they could tell me is I need to use port forwarding. Of course this doesn't work if you're running the same application on two different computers or even two different applications on two computers that require the same port. Finally they put me in touch with the tech department at Actiontech. They said that their firewall inspects all packets and will drop packets in my case and there was no way to remove that function. Turning off the firewall will NOT stop this!! They told me that they are for "Home" use. Interesting as all other routers I have had for "Home" use worked. The only way I was able to get this to work was to place my other router (2wire) after the Actiontec and set it as the DMZ. So the ONLY thing the junk actiontec box is used for is the dsl side. I hope this helps. |

Downgrading to a home router without a firewall did.
Does anyone know if you can put the Q1000 in a bridged mode of operation? (Then a better router could be used behind it.) -- I'm not a tax dodger, I'm a potential cabinet appointee! |

FYI: GUI of all qwest modem is going to be the same (or atleast the same) in future for uniformity and easy troubleshooting for hsi tech support reps. -- Study hard. Play harder. Girls hardest! |
