Re: PS3 would be nice, please. The PS3 can do this now--sort of. Problem is, it requires another computer and PlayOn.»www.themediamall.com/playon
I found it while searching for anything suggesting the PS3 might do native Netflix streaming. It's inexpensive software that may eventually be obsolete but it works quite well for my purposes.
It can stream NetFlix to pretty much any UPnP or DLNA device and does the same with Hulu and Youtube. Amazon video is in beta and I don't think fully functional right now but I guess they'll get there.
In addition, they just added a beta feature to stream your local video and audio content to the same devices. In fact, I've found it much more compatible with devices than both TVersity and Twonky but it doesn't do everything they do.
It also "mostly" works with the DirecTV HR2x players. They're the only UPnP/DLNA devices it's acted a little flaky with and I believe it's DTV's issue not PlayOn's. The PS3 works great with it.
If they get a decent web interface to allow remote streaming of local music/video on PCs and not just standard UPnP/DLNA devices, I'll probably ditch TVersity and Twonky altogether. -- Tradition: Just because you've always done it that way doesn't mean it's not incredibly stupid. --despair.com |
